personal experience, and their current life situation really plays a big role
when they try to perceive the painting. For instance, a businessman with
a heavy work life might think that there's just a women painting out of
spheres. Whereas, a person who is at very content with their lives, would
relish the use of colors in the artwork, and the sense of relief and
calmness it brings him or her. But what I think is that at the end of the
day, it is not necessary for the audience to feel what the artists is trying
to show, and everyone can have a different perception, opinion, and can
take out a different meaning behind the same piece of art. The emotions
that the viewers feel do not have to be same.

good or bad. It might not be the same, how each viewer interprets the
painting, each viewer will try to take out their own meaning for this
artwork. For instance one person might take a look at Frida’s clothes in
the artwork, and they might focus on her cultural attire, and might think
about cultural significance behind this artwork. However, someone
having a bad day, might take a look at the torn heart, and the grey tones
in the background, and they might be able to relate themselves to the
emotions that Frida was trying to show, and the emotions she felt while
creating this painting.

My own learnings on the G.C and S.O.I
I believe that an artists artworks are the key, that creates a relationship between
the artist and the viewer, and for the viewers, I believe it is their daily
surroundings and their personal life which forms their identity, and which
further helps them perceive an artwork. It heavily depends on each persons
identity, their personal experience, and their current life situation which helps
them form an opinion on each an every artwork. I also think, that in each
artwork, artists use at least one element weather color or symbolisation, which
show their personal emotion.
My Learnings related to the Unit
After doing task one, I learnt that how its important for us to express ourselves,
how art is an outlet for a lot of artist to show each and every emotion they are
feeling, weather its happiness, sadness, frustration, or anger. After answering
the inquiry questions, I also learnt about how everyone has the right to express
themselves no matter what the situation Is. Looking at different artworks, it also
made me realise how art is one of the most expressive mediums that one can
use to show emotions, through the colors they use, through the elements they
incorporate in their artworks, the texture of an artwork, and what each element
in their artwork symbolises. Not only that but, I also saw how we can explore a
variety of mediums to express ourselves, and how much freedom we have in art,
and we are not bind to a particular thing, and this is not only in visual art, but in
other forms of art. Such as, drama, dance, music, literature art, etc. It does not
matter what form and shape the artwork is in, it always has a meaning behind
it, and always has a an emotion that the artist is trying to show.

My Learnings related to the Artists
From this task I learnt several different concepts, I got a deeper look and improved my skill while
analysing the principals and the elements of an artwork. I learnt about how the two artworks I
analysed ‘The Galatea of Spheres’ and ‘The two Frida’s’ made learn more about how both the
artworks, Frida and Dali used color, texture, and symbolism to show emotions, and how they
incorporated emotions in their artwork using their own style. The two artists that I chose,
Salvador Dali, and Frida Kahlo, I learnt more about their techniques, their style and how the way
they incorporated emotions in the artwork they created. I also got to know more about different
artworks of the two artists such as ‘Diego and I’ by Frida Kahlo, or ‘Surrealist newton’ by
Salvador Dali, and how each of them were unique in their own way. I also got to know that while
Frida Kahlo’s medium were only oil and acrylic on canvas, Salvador Dali created a few surrealist
sculptures too, such as ’The lobster telephone’, ‘Mae West Lips Sofa’, and one of the sculptures
that I used in this task ‘Surrealistic Newton’. I learnt about each artist’s style, that how Frida
Kahlo created a lot of self-portraits using surrealism, and symbolism, and how Salvador Dali was
known for his surrealistic style, using his wife, Gala as a muse, and for creating some artworks
based on the Dadaism movement. I also learnt a lot about each artists personal life, and how
they showed emotions in their artwork, using the emotions they felt when they went through a
problem. I also got to know about different themes that the artists painting was associated on.
For instance, Salvador Dali’s artworks revolved around mainly three specific themes, the first
one being his imagination and his universe, second one being sexual symbolism and lastly,
ideographic imagery. Whereas, Frida Kahlo, her artworks revolved around her life experiences,
her physical and emotional pain, her identity, her culture and the mixture of her German-
Mexican ancestry. Looking at the artists artworks, and doing their artworks formal analysis also
gave me a lot of inspiration and ideas for the artworks that I could create for these unit, in task
three. Task one is a task where we learn about the two artists styles and techniques, and
inspired by their artworks, their styles, and their techniques we create our own artworks, and I
think that I learnt several things, and gained a lot of knowledge by choosing Salvador Dali, and
Frida Kahlo.

Artistic intention and the layout of ‘The Mind
Palace’
This layout was inspired by a T.V show, Sherlock
Homes. In the show, the main character has a mind
palace, which consisted of his thoughts, his dreams,
and his emotions. And the layout created above is my
perception of the mind palace. The clouds I And the

of emotions, it symbolizes the soul. The three eyes in
my artwork, further physically show emotions when

palace, where everything going in our mind, each
emotion we feel is shown, all the transitions in our
perspective happened here, the string connecting all
of the elements of the mind palace together.

My artistic intention behind this layout was to show the
changes, that each and everyone went through during the
pandemic, the emotional change, change In our
perspective, change in the formation of our identity, and
our will to have freedom. The first eye, which is the
melting eye talks about the emotional change we went
through during the pandemic, how not having our friends
around us and not socializing with anyone, and not having
the fr eedom to go out, brought out a change in our
personalities, made us miss our friends. The second eye,
the caged eyeball talks about the freedom everyone
wanted to have, the eyeball representing us, and how we
were trapped in out homes and were affected in several
ways, and the third eye, talks about how during this
pandemic nearly all of us struggled with out identities,
trying to find ourselves, the different pupils, show various
perspectives that I got to see, and because all of these
perspectives, I struggled to find myself, struggled with my
identity as a person during the pandemic.

Because I was confused on how I should put all the elements
together for this layout, I tried out different composition before
making my final one, so I would get an idea of what all
possibilities I could have with the compositions, and I could plan
the way I put all the elements together to create a composition

My artistic intention behind layout five was to show how the society
and the community, around the person, blaming and constantly
accusing them, pointing out their mistakes while judging them. They

My artistic intention behind this artwork was again, to show
frustration, through different elements such as hands on the
head, clenched eyes, and an open mouth. This layout shows a
cry for help, the person looking up in hopes of someone
coming and saving them from their inner demon and trouble.
This artwork is a carry on of my third layout ‘The blame’, this
artworks talks about the emotions one feels after being
judged, these are the emotions shown behind that strong
façade, behind that stotic mask. The girl shows frustration
while crying for help, and while calling out for people, but no
one is listening. I was highly inspired by Salvador Dali’s
surrealistic style as I replicated the face and blended it, and I
was also inspired by Frida’s style of making portraits of
herself, her friends, her family, and her acquaintances.

My artistic intention behind this artwork, was that because I was
mainly focusing on showing emotions, I wanted to show the
disruption and the inner turmoil one faces, when facing a
problem. I wanted to highlight the lack of harmony that is
present in the picture. The hands on the head have always been
a sign of frustration, I wanted to show how the girl is screaming
out of frustration. This is again a follow up of my layout three
and layout four, this artwork shows how the girls inner demons
are eating her up, after calling out for help continuously but no
one coming.

Step 1: Doing the Background
After getting the round canvas, the first
thing I did was the background. I put
my canvas on a spinning wheel, and I
started to pour acrylic paints mixed
with water on my canvas to get the

then I started to draw a rough

Step 1: Editing the original pictures
To crop the original pictures, and to cut off the
background of these images, and to edit the
images above I used the app Picsart. I selected the
tools and used them on the original pictures to
crop and edit them. I also used the twist and twirl
effect to change the picture. I also used the Dodge
tool to have the running veins affect in the hands.
Step 2: Changing the saturation of the image
After I was done editing the images on Picsart, I wanted to have
more vibrant colors in my artwork, so I increased the saturation of
my image using the picture format option on Microsoft power-
point and going on color. The tool also heavily pixelated the picture
from some places.
Step 3: Adding, and blending the face
After I was satisfied with the background, I
imported the pictures, in photoshop. Over there I
resized the picture of the face and added a layer.

TASK 3: DIGITAL ARTWORK: THE BLAME
Step 6: Adding the Black Bordering
After I was done with the whole layout, I
did not like the way how the pointed
corners of the hands were showing, and
that looked very shabby. So, to fixt hat I
decided to add a black bordering to the
image. I exported the layout out of
photoshop as a PNG, and put it into
Microsoft Power Point, over there I chose
added a textbox, with no shape fill, but a
black outline. I increased the weight of the
outline and the black bordering became
thick, then I positioned it properly.
Step 5: Adding the eyes and positioning them
After adding the hands, the next thing I did
was add the eyes to my artwork and resize
them and position them properly. As the eye
picture I used was not edited at all, I started
out by adding one eye to the artwork on
photoshop and making it a layer, then I resized
the eye and positioned it according to how I
wanted it. After I was done with the first eye, I FINAL ARTWORK

them as layers, until all the eyes also looked
like they were point towards the face, with the

Step 4: Adding all the hands and positioning them
When the face was properly adjusted, and
blended, the next step was to add the hands to

step one) and added it to photoshop as a layer, I
resized it and place it according to my
preferences. I did the same way with all the other
ten hands, until it looked like that all the hands
were blaming the cut off face in the middle.
 TASK 3: DIGITAL ARTWORK: THE CRY
Step 1: Adding the layers
I took the original picture that I clicked (given on the
side) and imported it into photoshop as a layer from
my desktop. I used the key Command C and then the
key Command V to duplicate the layer in the same
file. Then, I used the moving tool in photoshop to
move the second layer, so it would be upward
diagonal to the first layer.
Step 2: Changing the color of the second layer and blending it
After doubling the first layer, I
blended the layer, by adding a mask
to the second layer, and using the
gradient tool I blended the two
layers together. After that I right
clicked on the second layer and
went to blending options, there I
unchecked the R and
B channels and only
kept the G, which got
the pink, green colors.
Step 2: Adding a third layer, and repeating
step one and two.
When I was done with the second layer. Using
the keys command C and V, I duplicated another
layer into the file. After doing that I repeated
step one and two, as done for the second layer.
But this time, when I was changing the R,G,B
channels, instead of unchecking R and B, I only
unchecked R and kept G and B. Which brought
the shades of Red and blue.
Step 6: Putting both the pieces together
After I was done with the second piece, I exported both the pieces
as PNG files out of photoshop and added them to Microsoft
power point. I added a text box, and went to shape format, where
I clicked on shape filled and colored the text box black. I adjusted
the textbox to make sure that both sides were equal. After I was
satisfied with the black background, I took a screen shot, and my
final artwork was ready.

Step 5: Repeating steps, one, two, and three, and inverting the
background layer
For the second piece, I repeated the first three steps, copied the
layers and blended them, then changed the R,G,B channels for
the second and the third layer. The only change I had in this
piece and the previous piece was that I changed the background
color. For the second piece, I inverted the background layer and
clicked on color range under the invert option. As I clicked on
that, image 2 opened (shown below). I went on selection
preview and chose white matte. After selecting that, I edited
the fuzziness of the piece and increased it till 146. Using the
tools shown below in image three, I edited the background
invert a bit, which changed the brightness of some places.

 TASK 4: PEER EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK ON FINAL ARTWORKS

Each and every feedback that I received from my peers, helped me evaluate and interpret the
pros and cons of my artwork. According to them, the use of colors in my digitals, and the
contrast created with the vibrant colors against the black and inverted colors in my artworks
’The cry’, and ‘The dissonance’ created a powerful impact on the audience. Overall, the
viewers liked the use of colors in all my artworks, as it was really vibrant, and it stood out.
However, they also suggested that there could be more elements that could have been added
to my mixed media canvas to have a powerful impact on the audience. The connection
between ‘The Intuition’ and ‘The mind palace’ could have been portrayed better so when the
pieces are put together, they could have been more effective in its audience impact. Overall, I
am pleased with the feedback I received, as I was successfully able to portray the emotions
that I wanted to show and symbolize through my artworks, and the feedback received also
helped me interpret my artworks properly, and understand the missing aspects in them.

to assist me evaluate the artworks and conclude various flaws and possible
improvements which can be made in the same. According to my peers, the
few elements which they liked in all the artworks were mainly regarding the
color combination and style which was created in making those artworks. I
received comments like “aesthetically appealing to viewer’s eye”, “color
combinations compliment each other greatly” and ”perfect blend of dark
and light colors”. Moreover, as I have discussed earlier that peoples perceive
artworks depending on their human nature, this exact scenario can be

the most. Personally, I believe the use of colors against the black layer, and the
inverted layer really stand out, and colors really highlight the frustration and
the internal, psychological stress that one goes through. The image itself
portrays different emotion, but the use of reds, yellows, pinks, and green, put
emphasis on the figure of the girl, and create an effective impact on the
audience.
TASK 4: PERSONAL EVALUATION
3) Personally, ‘The blame’ is an artwork that I feel like is the most realistic and relatable
artwork I created. Not only that but I really like the concept behind the artwork. As it is talks
about the society and the community around the person, blaming them and constantly
pointing out their mistakes while judging them. They try to keep a strong façade, keep
themselves strong, to not let the society see them crumble. Even though the artwork talks
about such themes, I really like the use of vibrant colors in the artwork as it has a greater
impact on the audience. Although, I believe that the eyes and their rectangular edges, in the
artwork could have been well blended. Moreover, I also feel like, I should’ve put more
emphasis on the face of the person, and could have explored their facial expression with a
different emotion that would show their inner turmoil, and their thoughts. However, at the

the pieces where I used a lot of mediums, and the first time I ever used oil. There were a lot of
places where I struggled. Personally, I feel that I could have added more elements in the
artwork, that would have portrayed emotion, and that could have a more powerful impact on
the audience and the viewers. Maybe something around the clouds as there is a lot of space
that could have been used much more effectively. However, I was also satisfied with some
aspects of the artwork. For instance, the background of the artwork. As I wanted to have a

visual texture which also had a powerful impact on the audience, and brought out a strong

 TASK 4: DEVELOPMENT AS AN ARTIST
Skills developed
Through this I developed various skills, these skills helped me improve myself as an artists. In the process of creating
these artworks I got the chance to explore several different mediums such as ink, oil paints, paper mache, acrylic paints,
photography and photoshop. Not only that by, I also got a chance to explore different techniques, and elements while
creating my artworks. Moreover, by exploring all these mediums, techniques, and elements I had a chance to challenge
myself, and develop and work on my technique as an artist. With most of the mediums used, I was working with them
for the first time, so there were a lot of places where I made mistakes and struggled to work with those mediums,
however, as I got a hang of those mediums and got to work with them. I was able to develop my skills and improve my
technique by using them continuously while creating my artworks. Further, by creating these artworks I got a great
opportunity to express myself, express my ideas and develop on those ideas using my skill in art. By using paper mache
in ‘The Mind Palace’ I was able to achieve the visual texture that I needed, and I was able to explore this medium. This
unit allowed me to develop my skills when talking about understanding different themes, such as identity and emotions.
Not only did I develop my skills while creating the artwork, but I also developed my skills while doing the formal analysis
of my two chosen artworks, which helped me develop my skill as a viewer, and as a person analysing those artworks.
Moreover, in the beginning I was unable to use oil paints at all, but with time and practice I was able to use it properly
and develop my skills while using oils paints. Not only that but, in my third artwork,’The Blame’ I was unable to fit all the
elements in the artwork, but while planning those artwork as I created different compositions using photoshop I was
able to expand my horizon and now I can easily fit elements with some planning, and after understanding their basic
structure. Lastly, while learning how to work with different mediums, I was also able to improve my self-esteem, as this
was one of the first times wheee I worked with a big round canvas, and I explored so many different mediums. I believe
that in the future, I can put these skills that I developed throughout this unit to a good use.

My Learning’s
One of my main learning from this units was, my learning’s on the artists and their artwork. I really learnt a lot of things
from this unit, I got to know about the artists, I got to know how can we understand and analyse emotions, I got to
improve my skills on understanding the elements and principals of art, and a lot of other things. From task one I learnt
about Frida Kahlo, and her style of self-portraits, and symbolism. I learnt about the techniques she used to show
emotions. Similarly, for Salvador Dali I learned about how he used his wife, Gala as a muse. How he used surrealism to
express his thoughts and his emotions. I also developed my skills when talking about analysing and understanding
artworks. I also learnt about different techniques through which we can include emotions in our artworks. From task two
I learnt how important it is to plan our artworks before creating them, what colour scheme are we going to use, what
elements are we going to include. Planning is a very important step before creating our artwork, otherwise when
creating the artwork we can get confused as we have not planned our artworks. From task two I also learnt the proper
way of planning, and what all things that have to be included in our planning. Task three, helped me show my journey,
and the process of creating my artwork, and it helped express my areas, and helped me form those ideas into proper art
pieces. Lastly, task four helped me get feedback on my artworks and helped me interpret those feedbacks, and helped
me reflect on my artworks. I learnt how I could develop these pieces and these ideas further.

Future use of knowledge
The skills, techniques, and the learning’s that I developed and
acquired throughout this unit will be beneficial in the future when I
create various artworks. Not only that, but I also be able to easily
include emotions in my artwork with the use of different mediums
and different techniques without any problem. By exploring
different mediums in the unit, I have a better knowledge on these
mediums and how to use them in the right way, with this
knowledge I will be able to create my artworks using different
mediums without any restrictions. I will also be able to use the
texture of these mediums to my benefi, as each represent
different emotions. Such as, by using a thick application of paint for
the clouds painted in ‘The Mind Palace’ I was able to bring out the
rough surface texture that I wanted.
I will also be able to use my understanding and knowledge of
elements and principal of arts, while creating my artworks, as
shapes, lines, colour, etc. Play a big role in art, for example in ‘The
Intuition’ the background pattern and the inorganic form played a
major role in my artwork is it shows how my artwork is based on
the pandemic, those background represented germs. Further in
my other artworks, such as ‘The Cry’, form and colour played a
really important role when talking about emotions. Through this, I
was able to express myself, and have a better connection with
audience, and have a greater impact on the audience. So, I would
use this knowledge to my advantage to build a better connection
with the viewers and the audience.
Lastly, I would really like to take my learning on the topic of
surrealism and symbolism forward. I incorporated these two styles
in all of my artworks that I created, and I realised that these two
themes along with other elements and principals of art really
helped me express myself as an artist, and it also helped me have
a greater impact on the audience. And because of this, I would
really like to use this style while constructing my artworks in the
future.
TASK 4: IMPACT AND KNOWLEDGE
Impact on the audience
All the artworks that I created, include different elements of art that evoke different emotions and feelings for different viewers,
and impacts those viewers in their own, different way;
‘Mind palace’: This artwork was created to show the centre of all emotions, and how everything we feel, we think, and we do comes
from here. For me, this artwork was the bigger idea, the main concept, and all the other artworks a part of this idea. I believe, that the
use of thick application of paint will bring out different emotions within the audience, they will be able to feel the chaos and mayhem,
the disruption and the turmoil by looking at this artwork. They will be able to feel these emotions through my thick use of paint, and the
visual texture which I have added in my artwork. Not only that but, the use of the colour purple in the background shows the power the
mind palace holds over ones thoughts and their actions, and the colour blue showing the depth behind our thoughts and ideas. The use
of the three eyes, in this artwork represents our journey throughout the pandemic, which most of the audience will be able to relate to.
‘The Intuition’ is one of the most relatable artworks for the viewers, as this artwork talks about the pandemic, it talks about our
emotional and mental state during the pandemic in the changes, I think this is on of the points which the audience will relate
themselves very well to. Because a lot of us during the pandemic felt lost and lonely, or some of us actually felt happy and got a chance
to improve on themselves, and got a chance to develop their personality. My colour scheme in the first eye, will make the viewers feel
two different emotions at the same time, happiness and sadness. As the first eye talks about the transition, and change of emotions we
felt from the starting of the pandemic to the end of the pandemic. The second eye also talks about wanting freedom, wanting to go out
again, and be with your friends, which The audience will again relate well too. The use of colour brown in the second artwork shows
how all of us became lonely, and isolated and were unable to get the freedom we wanted, the use of colours will the viewers feel
sympathy and sorrow. Lastly, the last eye talks about how all of us struggled with I our self- identity during the pandemic, how we
struggled to create our own identity, how we struggled to find our own perspective, while we were listening to everyone else’s
perspective and opinion. The use of the colour maroon shows how intense the topic is, and this will make the viewers understand the
importance of these themes, and will make them think about it.
‘The Blame’ is not the artworks that the viewers might be able to relate themselves very well too. As the asrtowkr talks about one
feeling left out, and how everyone is judging them, almost like pointing out their flaws, and telling them it’s their fault. By looking at the
artwork, the viewers will feeel sympathy and pity as they feel bad for the girl in the picture. However, some viewers will feel pain, and
sorrow as they might have gone through a similar situation that is being shown in the artwork.
‘The Cry’, and ‘The Dissonance’. Looking at both the artworks the viewers will instantly feel the sorrow, the aggression, and the pain.
As the expression of the girl in both the pictures. In the cry, when the girl is looking up, and her hands are on her head she shows
emotions of distress and sorrow, she shows how she’s crying out for help. Looking at the cry, the viewers will feel different emotions
like sympathy, sadness, and pity for the girl, as she cries out for help and everyone is unable to help her. Some viewers might even find
‘the cry’ relateable as the viewers also might need someone, but they have no one to help them. Looking at ‘The Dissonance’ the
viewers might be able to feel the frustration and the mayhem that is shown in the artwork, as the girl is in the artwork is screaming
causing disruption in her surroundings. The viewers again might be able to relate themselves to this artwork, because sometimes it’s
important for us to just let all our feelings out, it’s okay to putout them out, and as the viewers look at the girl, she might motivate the
viewers to pour their feeling out, just scream it all out. The use of the glitch effect in the artwork shows disruption, and inner turmoil
which again the viewers might be able to relate themselves with.
