She was born in 1907 and died in 1954 in Coyoacán, Mexico

City. Her full name was Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo

Calderón.

Frida was a very beautiful woman. Her red lips, her bushy
eyebrows and her raven hair, which she adorned with flowers,
made her very attractive. But beyond her physical appearance,
the Mexican artist possessed a singular talent that, backed by
her strong personality, made her a legend of Mexican art of the
last century.

She studied at the German School and at the National

Preparatory School in Mexico City.

In 1925, she suffered a tragic accident, the consequences of

which she suffered until her death (the disease she had was
poliomyelitis, this disease left her a permanent sequel: her right leg was much thinner than her
left).

During a long convalescence, she began to paint her face by copying it from a mirror mounted on
the canopy of the bed. First, she was realistic and portrayed family and friends, she also liked to
paint flowers.

But after her, because of the intensity of her feelings and a shattered body, she painted more and
more her own image combined with dreamlike expressions, sometimes brutal. Even part of her
work has been associated with surrealist tendencies due to her introspective nature.

In 1929, she married Diego Rivera, whom she divorced in 1940 to remarry him a year later.

She was a painting teacher at the School of Plastic Arts and a member of the Mexican Culture
seminar. In 1938, she mounted her first solo exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York.

Her works were included in the 1939 "Mexique" Exhibition, which was presented at the Renou et
Colle Gallery in Paris, as well as in other group exhibitions that throughout her life were presented
in Mexico. She participated in the International Surrealism Exhibition organized in 1940 at the
Gallery of Modern Art in Mexico City. Institutions as important as the Museum of Modern Art in
New York and the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris host some of her works.

It seems to me of great importance to talk about this great woman since she fought for equality.
Since her body had a masculine appearance, and this she opted for facial hair and forgot the
stereotypes that existed loving himself. It can be said that Frida became a symbol of feminism for
something more than the paintings, she learned to accept herself much more before all the
revolution that is happening today, she is an example to follow to be able to love and value
yourself . Frida not only stood out but also paved the way for all those women who were sure of
themselves and her talent.
