Executive Summary

Purpose of this report

This paper is created to report the writer’s experience between english course and TOEFL
score.

Findings and conclusions

Learning english is one of the most important thing for all people. So it important for us to
prepare it before we do TOEFL test to get the best result as good as we can do.

Recommendation

Learning english is a must, because we can hold the world by the language. Especially for
people that are coming from country with english is not as a native language. So, learning
english is not only about TOEFL test preparation.

But, if people are going to do TOEFL test, its much better if they prepare it well, for example
by following the english course.

TOEFL Program
TOEFL is a Test Of English as a Foreign Language which made by Educational Testing Service
(ETS) in United States. TOEFL is needed as a requirement to entrance school-test in almost of
all university. This test can be conducted by undergraduate (S1) or graduate (S2 and S3).

This test is used to evaluate:

1. Student have an ability in writing and grammar in English so they can make scientific
work.
2. Student have an ability in reading so they can understand the textbooks or anything that
they will read.
3. Student have an ability in listening so they can understand about what other people say
to them.

Commonly this test take 3 hours or 180 minutes and 4 sessions, they are:

1. Grammar structure and written expression

2. Listening comprehension
3. Reading comprehension
4. Writing

There are 3 types of TOEFL:

1. TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT)
2. TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT)
3. TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT)

Purpose of Study

The writer’s purpose to take the english course is for spending the spare time possitively.
Because at that time the writer is in free time after, so the writer decide to fill her free time with
something which can increase her capability and support her future. The writer is come from
Indonesia and studying in International Program. So, english is not the main language in
writer’s daily activity but its a must for writer to master it.

Beside for daily activity use, english is the main component to determine the writer’s
graduation in future. Because all of international student should have high score of TOEFL to
be graduated from UNSOED.

Scope of Study

When we are studying english, we will learn about writing, reading, listening and speaking.
Why we should understand all of them? Because they are related each other.

For example when we want to make a scientific article, we need to gather some information
(both from text or audio) then re-write them to our article. Then if we are going to show it, we
should speak up our work to the public. What are the skill we need for them? See, we need to
read, listen, write and also speak.

Above is the simple example about the important of learning english well.

Method and Result

The writer choose Intensive English Course (IEC) as a english course institution. It is located
in Dr. Angka Street, No. 22, East Purwoketo, Banyumas, Central Java.

The writer choose a month-course. The course was held twice a week, in every. It spent about
90 minutes for each meeting. In this class the writer learn about writing, reading, listening and
speaking more practically, so it will more easy for us to understand.

At the end of this program, the writer have attended TOEFL. The writer feel the difference
between TOEFL with preparation and TOEFL without preparation. Previously, the writer
already held TOEFL without preparation and the result is not as enough as the last one. But the
previous result cant be showed becaouse it is not printed, it is about 420. The TOEFL result
with preparation will be attached in last page.

It may be not good enough, but the important things in learning is process and progress. From
that time the writer always motivate herself to learn more so the TOEFL score will follow as
great as her effort.
