TOEFL FORMATS

Paper-Based & Computer-Based TOEFL

The computer-based test is very similar to the
original paper-based. CBT was presented in
1998, but today centers in remote areas that do
not have the opportunity to offer computer-
based test, paper based test is still used. The total
time for paper- based test is 2.5 hours, for CBT –
approx. 4 hours (including tutorials)
Internet Based Test
Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT) Internet-based test was
designed in 2005 to replace both previous versions of
the test. It is gradually becoming available worldwide.
In comparison with paper and computer-based tests, it
has such changes: the elimination of the structure
section, and the addition of the speaking and writing
section. One more task was added - integrated tasks that
require the test taker to combine more than one skill. A
goal of TOEFL iBT remains unchanged in comparison
with the paper- and computer-based tests. A TOEFL iBT
score measures the communication skills of those who
wish to enter a schools or universities where English is
the native language.

Check your answers afterwards and review your
errors. If you need to, you can use your
dictionary during practice exercises.
Listening. Write down notes while you’re
listening to help you remember details. Don’t
write down full sentences, just write down the
most important ideas.
• Writing. Think about the topic first and then
write down your ideas. Create an outline,
including an introduction, your main points and
a conclusion. Start writing once you have an
outline. When finished, read it again and correct
your mistakes.
• Speaking. Answer the exact question that was
asked; don’t talk about something else. Keep it
simple. Practice speaking in a relaxed tone
