Figueroa Street Los Angeles, CA 90017 Dear Alliance School Leadership, ‘As Supervisor for the First District, I am writing regarding the educators at Alliance Gertz Ressler Richard Merkin 6-12 Complex and Alliance College Ready Middle Academy #5, two schools within my District, and Alliance Judy vie Burton Technology High School (Second District). As you know, these teachers filed a request for recognition under Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology High Schoo! Alliance Gertz-Ressler Richard Merkin 6-12 Complex Alliance College Ready Middle Academy #5 School Board of Directors Page 2 May 9, 2018, the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA) at the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to join United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). ‘As the former United States Secretary of Labor, [ have been following the teachers’ efforts for several years. I am aware that this has been contentious, with multiple unfair labor practices complaints, and an injunction issued by Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant against Alliance, Combined, the petitions represent three schools and over 100 educators. Students in the First District and across LA County believe in and rely on Alliance. Accordingly, I hope that Alliance will respect the wishes of these schools and teachers, and begin the process of collective bargaining and participation in the procedures required under PERB without delay. ‘Yours Sincerely, Nkdy.
