Dear Alliance School Leadership:
1am writing to you about the recent developments concerning educators at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology
High School, Ailiance Gertz-Ressler Richard Merkin 6-12 Complex, and Alliance College Ready Middle Academy
#5 who, on May 2", filed a request for recognition under the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA) at
the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to join United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA).
Ihave been following the teachers’ effort for several years. | am aware that this has been contentious, with multiple
unfair labor practices complaints, and an injunction issued by Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant against
Alliance.
Now that there are majority petitions filed at three schools, covering over 100 educators, I sincerely hope and expect
that Alliance, for the good of the entire Alliance community, will respect, rather than resist, their wishes. This
would include respecting the PERB recognition of these school units without legal delay and beginning the process
of collective bargaining.
Alliance has developed an excellent set of schools that have thrived on the good works of an outstanding group of
professional educators. Alliance has also benefited by over SI billion dollars in tax payer support and, as public
schools under the law, [ fully expect that you will continue to lawfully participate in the procedures required under
PERB
