specific purposes.
Imperialism

● Imperialism is when one nation tried to acquire and inhabit a territory

through diplomatic and militaristic means, usually by force
● This is evident in Germany’s advances into Belgium and France
● Imperialism is the same as business when companies buy out other
companies
Nationalism

● Nationalism is a sense of pride in one’s country

● It became a unifying force in Europe: Italy unified into one country and
Germany was unified by Bismarck
● It is represented by the Fourth of July in the United States when everybody
dresses in red, white, and blue
Which MAIN cause is most responsible for
the start of the war?

We believe that imperialism is most responsible for the cause of World War I
because Germany expanded and took over other countries creating conflict. In
addition, Germany’s advances into Belgium and France created supply
shortages for other European nations such as Britain. Civilians had to work
harder, eat less, and pay higher taxes in order to pay for the military. The
military was sent to keep Germany from trying to dominate all of Europe.

a different conflict either before or after the
war
It connects to the Cold War because Russia expanded into Europe after World
War II and this fueled America's fear that Russia was going to take over the
world, just as Germany had tried to do. There was also the creation of new
weapons such as the H-bomb. Joseph Stalin was in power and ruled the Soviet
Union as a tyranny, killing millions of people.
