State Introduction

Hi my name is Benjamin and this is the Arizona State

Report. I knew nothing until I did research about Arizona.

Arizona is in the South West U.S.A. The nickname for

Arizona is The Grand Canyon State. Arizona got that

nickname because of the Beautiful Canyons.

State History

Arizona, the Grand Canyon state, achieved statehood

on February 14, 1912, the last of the 48 coterminous

United States to be admitted to the union. Originally part of

New Mexico, the land was put in to the United States in

1848, and became a separate territory in 1863. Arizona is

the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be

admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February

14, 1912.

The area of Arizona is 113,998 mi²

The Capital is Phoenix and the location

The current population in Arizona 7.016 Million

The major colleges in Arizona Pima Community College,

Mesa Community College, Glendale Community College,

Northern Arizona University and more.

Arizona is well known for its Desert Basin and Range

region in the state's southern portions, which is rich in a

landscape of xerophyte plants such as the cactus. Located

in northern Arizona, the Grand Canyon is a colorful, deep,

steep-sided gorge, place. The top places to go in arizona

are the Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell, Monument Valley,

Grand Canyon Skywalk, Lake Mead, Petrified Forest

National Park, Havasu Falls, Saguaro National Park, and

many more.

Arizona is kinda a desert with cities and more.

Arizona Lakes, Rivers and Water Resources. Arizona

Lakes Shown on the Map: Alamo Lake, Lake Havasu,

Lake Mead,Lake Mohave, Lake Powell, San Carlos

Reservoir and Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The United

States Geological Survey has a number of stream gages

located throughout Arizona. Climate and Seasons.

Arizona's climate varies widely by altitude. Southern

Arizona, including Phoenix and Tucson, has very hot

summers and mild winters, with cooler summertime

temperatures in the Chiricahua Mountains in the southeast

corner of the state.

State Economy

Arizona’s Natural Resources: Primary natural

resources are its warm climate and mineral deposits.

Copper is, by far, the most important mineral. Other mined

products include coal, gold, petroleum, pumice, silver,

stone and uranium. Water is scarce.About 47% of

Arizona's agricultural production is in livestock. The other

53% is in crops. In terms of revenue generated, Arizona's

top five agricultural products are cattle and calves, lettuce,

dairy products, cotton, and hay.Over 80% of Arizona's

$22.6 billion in exports for 2015 were manufactured

goods. The largest sectors for manufactured goods were:

electrical machinery, aircraft, spacecraft, machinery, and

optics.

Famous People

Frank Luke, Jr was a was born on May 19, 1897 and

died on September 29, 1918. He was an American fighter

ace, ranking second among U.S. Army Air Service pilots

after Captain Eddie Rickenbacker.

Cesar Estrada Chavez was born on March 31st, 1927 in

Yuma, Arizona., His parents were Juana Estrada and

Librado Chavez. He had two brothers and two sisters and

grew up on his family's farm in Yuma. Co-founded the

National Farm Workers Association and The most

well-known Latino American civil rights activist.

Louie Espinoza was the first world champion boxer, born

May 12, 1962 and still alive today. and won the Vacant

WBA Super Bantamweight Title in 1987 by defeating

Tommy Valoy​, becoming the first world champion boxer.

Closing

What I love about Arizona is the Grand Canyons and

the massive cities there. I would love to go visit and then

see all the things there, but I would not go to college in

Arizona. Three facts I've found is that ​Arizona is a 

right-to-work state just like most of the states in the us, 

Arizona leads the nation in copper production, and ​the

amount of copper on the roof of the Capitol building is

equivalent to 4,800,000 pennies.
