NATIONAL FESTIVALS
THANKSGIVING DAY
Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated in the 
United States of America. 
It was originally celebreted as a day of giving 
thanks for the blessing of the harvest. 
Thanksgiving is for Americans one of the most 
important holidays of the year. On the fourth 
Thursday of November they meet with their family 
to thank for a successful year and to eat traditional 
dinner which consists of roast turkey with stuffing.

The day after the feast is an unofficial holiday of 
shopping called Black Friday.
INDEPENDENCE DAY

Independence Day ­ a national holiday in the 
United States, celebrated each year in July to 
commemorate the anniversary of Declaration of 
Independence of the United States from Britain, 
which took place on the fourth of July in 1776.
Americans organize various parades and festivals. 
They often spend their free time having barbecues 
with their family and friends. 
There are also firework displays in large cities.
FAMOUS AMERICAN CITIES
SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco is probably the most cosmopolitan city in
the world. You can find there a mixture of American,
European as well as Oriental culture which is visible in
the restaurants, shops and all over the city. For the last
70 years it has been an important economic and
financial centre. It is also the business centre and the
main harbour in the United States of the America, on
the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
SAN FRANCISCO
Large numbers of the Chinese people arrived
to the city and settled there for good in a place
which is now known as the largest cluster of
the Chinese outside their
homeland – Chinatown.
ALCATRAZ
One of the touristic attractions near San Francisco is the
island of Alcatraz and Federal Jail was located there.

It is the place where Al Capone was imprisoned. The Jail was


closed 1n 1962 for economic reasons. Nowadays the Jail is a
museum opened for tourists to visit. It has also been a scene
for many famous films, for example “The Rock”
(Twierdza) with Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.
GOLDEN GATE

The Golden Gate Bridge, built in 1937, used to be


the longest suspended bridge in the world.
It is 2,7 km long and it takes approximately 30
minutes to walk from one end to the other.
CABLE CAR
The San Francisco cable car system is the world's last
manually operated cable car system.
There were 23 lines opened between 1873 and 1890, but
only three operate today and take tourists to such
places as Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and along
California Street.
WASHINGTON
Washington D.C., known also as the District of Columbia or
"Washington", "the District", or simply "D.C.", is the
capital of the United States. It has been the Capital of the
USA since 1790. It is located along the Potomac River on
the East Coast. It houses the federal government: the
Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court.
THE WHITE HOUSE
The White House is the official residence of the President
of the United States, located in Washington, D.C.

It has been the residence of every president since John Adams in


1800.So far 43 presidents have lived there.
THE CAPITOL
The United States Capitol, often called
Capitol Hill, is the seat of the United
States Congress, the legislative branch of the federal
government.
THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL
The Lincoln Memorial is an American
national monument built to honour
the 16th president of the United States,
Abraham Lincoln. It is located in Washington. The
building contains a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln.
NATURAL WONDERS

Yellowstone National Park


National Park is situated in the United States,
on the territory of states such as Wyoming,
Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone National
Park is the oldest national park in the world.
In the park there are famous geysers,
volcanoes and waterfalls. Since 1978
Yellowstone Park has been on the UNESCO
World Heritage List .

Grand Canyon National Park is located in
Coconino and Mohave in the northern part
of the Arizona state in the United States. It
was created in 1919. It is one of the oldest
national parks in the United States. Its total
area is 4 926.66 square kilometers.

famous for her role in the Disney TV series 
"Hannah Montana".
