Room 111 News!

This week we continued talking about butterflies. We reviewed the parts of the butterfly
and the butterfly life cycle. We also introduced addition and started counting with butterflies and
caterpillars. For example, we learned three butterflies plus two caterpillars is five insects. We
started with small numbers and the children were very successful and proud of their math skills!
We also finished our Second Step curriculum by talking about making new friends in
kindergarten. We role played phrases like “What’s your name?” “Can I play with you?” and “Do
you want to share?” during circle, and then we practiced these phrases throughout free play and
outside time.
For the children graduating preschool this year, the graduation ceremony will be at
10:00am/2:00pm. Parking space is limited so get there early. The graduates will sing a few
songs and there will be a video presentation. Afterwards, the children will receive their
graduation certificates. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
This year we will not have a formal End of the Year Party. We will combine a little
popsicle celebration with Field Day, June 5th. We will have popsicles in the playground at
9:30am/1:30pm, and then we will go play field day games at 10:00am/2:00pm. Please join us!

Speech:
In speech this week, the children read an interactive butterfly life cycle story with Ms. F
on the iPad! The children reviewed the sequence of the butterfly life cycle. When reading the
story, the children practiced turn-taking, sound production, increasing utterance length,
speaking in grammatically correct sentences, answering questions, making requests,
commenting to peers and initiating peer interactions.
Ms. F also read a nonfiction butterfly book! The children enjoyed retelling the butterfly life
cycle and looking at real pictures of butterflies and caterpillars.
