Work Log - Blog

(Blog 1) 1/18/18- This was the first step to my senior project. I knew I wanted to something
anti-human trafficking but I was still in the process of developing my question. Do research for
letter of intent. I narrowed my topic down to a community aspect, and focused on what my
community can do to combat trafficking. I also came up with an actual project where I proposed
that I lead my church group in a service project, making care packages for survivors of
trafficking.

(Blog 2) 1/19/18- I took my letter of intent to my U.S. history teacher, Mr. Harris, asking him to
revise my proposal. Mr. Harris gave me lots of tips on how I can narrow my question. He
signed my letter and asked me to send him via email my revised proposal the next day.

(Blog 3) 1/10/18- I did a lot of research about what was being done in my community regarding
anti-human trafficking and I found an interesting article. The article was reporting a local protest
in Santa Clara at 49er’s Levi Stadium before the superbowl. I printed and annotated the article.

(Blog 4) 2/1/18- I did further research on my topic and discovered two interesting article, one
from the FBI human trafficking task force, the other from Polaris, an non profit anti-trafficking
organization. I printed and annotated both these articles.

(Blog 5) 2/13/18- After talking with my senior english teacher, Mr. Nunes, I realized there was a
lot that I can do enable to become an expert on the topic, he recommended I look for a
convention or a seminar. I found a two day human trafficking seminar course. After finishing
the course If I wanted I could apply to be a trainer, allowing me to teach courses like the one I
would attend.

(Blog 6) 2/15/18- Mr. Nunes, my Senior English teacher, gave his classes time during class to
work on a reading research paragraph. I began to put the research I have already obtained
together to create an outline for the paragraph.

(Blog 7) 2/16/18- Mr. Nunes allowed his classes to have one more day to finalize our reading
research paragraphs and to ask for help if needed. I finished mine by the end of the period and
felt confident in the steps I took to create it.

(Blog 8) 2/20/18- I attended the first part of the human trafficking course. It took place in the
justice center in downtown Concord. It was a four hour seminar about trauma. I learned about
all the different types of traumas and how we as people should deal with them.

(Blog 9) 2/22/18- I attended the second part of the human trafficking course. it took place in the
justice center in downtown Concord. It was another four hours but this time the main focus was
about how to identify victims of human trafficking. I also conducted an interview with one of
my mentors (Frank) after the seminar.

(Blog 10) 2/23/18- I began to write my rough draft for my place visit, describing my experience
attending the two day human trafficking course. I used descriptive writing to describe the setting
and also incorporated some dialogue that went on during the course.

(Blog 11) 2/23/18- Turned in my mentor information form.

(Blog 12) 3/8/18- I conducted my interview with Kyle Hearn, a collage student involved with
organizations near his school that help combat human trafficking.

(Blog 13) 3/9/18- I wrote my outline for my essay and then began writing the rough draft for my
essay. I adjusted my outline numerous times while working on my draft.

(Blog 14) 3/13/18- Turned in a hard copy of my rough draft paper to Mr. Nunes as well as a
digital copy on turnitin.com.

(Blog 15) 4/9/18- Receive my graded paper from Mr. Nunes, with comments on how I could
improve my paper.
I went home and read over it.

(Blog 16) 4/16/18- I met with Angie Kavert, on of my mentors for my project.
Angie is a youth leader for my church and has connections/experiences with an uncountable
amount of community organizations, including some that deal with the subject of human
trafficking.

Angie filled out Expert/Mentor Critique form. She left very positive comments.
(Blog 17) 4/17/18- I met with Mr. Wood for more guidance on my senior project. I wanted to
have many different opinions and options enable to write a substantial final paper. Mr. Wood
gave me great help and was very straight forward on how I can improve my paper. He advised
me to re-check my paper/revisions with my core english teacher [Mr. Nunes].

(Blog 18) 4/20/18- I revised my paper with Mr. Nunes, he helped me focus more on grammatical
corrections, and advised me to use the hemingway app online ‘enable' to clean up my sentences.

(Blog 19) 4/21/18- I made my last few corrections while running it through the app suggested by
Mr. Nunes.
After I had both my parents read over the essay out loud. That helped me check the
fluidity of the essay.

(Blog 20) 4/23/18- I turned in a hard copy of my final essay to Mr. Nunes, along with a digital
copy on turnitit.com.

(Blog 21) 5/3/18- I received my graded essay back, after having two teachers from the english
department grade it. My Average score was 88%.

(Blog 22) 5/10/18- I met with my youth group leader, Mr. Basil, to talk about my project. We
scheduled for me to do it on thursday the 17th.

(Blog 23) 5/12/18- Started working on my practice presentation. I wrote my speech 2 different
times, not exactly liking either of them.

(Blog 24) 5/15/18- I gave my practice presentation. That practice helped a lot because it helped
me realize I was looking at it the wrong way and instead of giving a lot of research on the
subject, they want details on the project.
I went home to work on the talk I was going to give to my church which I ended up
re-writing 3 different times.

(Blog 25) 5/16/18- I met with Mike Basil to discuss my talk and the layout of the night I was
giving it. He helped a lot with how I should structure the talk which was what I was really
struggling with. I went home to rewrite it for the last time.

(Blog 26) 5/17/18- I gave my talk, it flowed a lot better than I expected it to and really touched
me along with many members of the group. Afterwards my youth group broke up into circles to
write cards for those who were victimized, and prayed over them.
(Blog 27) 5/21/18- I contacted Arms of care to ask if they would take the cards my youth group
wrote.
I have to wait till June 1, to write the person in charge.
