Lesson Topic: Watershed Wonders Day 1 Water Cycle Review

Write a brief summary of your experiences teaching this lesson, addressing the following
questions:

 What went well? What did not go well? (Cite specific examples)
Lesson was completed in the 45 minute period and the students participated about
their prior knowledge of the water cycle taught in 4th grade. Using visual gestures
and chants to review the water cycle engaged the class.

 How well were the lesson’s student performance objectives attained?

Since the objective was a review of 4th grade concepts, the students met the
performance objectives by writing out the water cycle in the journal and
participating in the visual gestures/chant review.

 Did classroom activity center on science understanding, inquiry, and sense-

making by all students?
The lesson was focused more on science understanding and accessing prior
knowledge. Inquiry was exhibited when the students shared where they have
seen the water cycle in their environment.

 Did your scientific content knowledge enable you to support students’

construction of knowledge and understanding of important scientific concepts
and processes?
With my knowledge and active way of displaying the water cycle, students were
able to share their understanding of the scientific concepts involved in the water
cycle.

 When you have the opportunity to re-teach this lesson, what will you do
differently (strategies, teaching tools, assessments, etc.) to improve student
learning for all students?
When I re-teach this lesson, I would spend more time discussing the key
vocabulary for better understanding of precipitation, condensation and
evaporation. I would explore simple investigations to display how the water cycle
works, such as boiling water with a pan and lid to show a simplified way of
understanding these key concepts in the water cycle.
