I am currently a social media programmer who graduated from UBC after taking a computer
science course for 4 years. I am rooming with Jasper who is working as a technician. My business is
located at 45 W 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1L4

We will be living in a 2-bedroom laneway. The place has one small washroom and bathroom. It
also has a balcony and is only a 2-minute walk from Victoria Drive bus stop. Jasper and I will be paying
$900 each per month. We chose this place because it is very close to a bus stop, so I can get to and from
work easily. Also, the place is very close to Douglas Elementary school so if any of us get kids we can
send them there.
Pros:
Cons:
Insurance:
Each of us will be paying $14.21 for housing insurance/ month. This will be around $191 each year.
Damage Deposit:
The damage deposit will be around $450.
Create a list of all the furnishings and appliances you will need to make your home as comfortable as
you can afford to. Break down this list by room (living room, bathroom, etc.) to help make sure you’ve
covered everything. You start off with nothing so you must purchase everything. Use the classified ads in
the paper or department store catalogues/websites (Ikea, Sears, etc.) to find out how much things are.
Craigslist items, while non-taxable, have their drawbacks – so if you decide to purchase via Craigslist –
you are going to have to pay tax on them on the budget sheet (we’ll call it a ‘maintenance’ fee – or a
‘cleaning this used couch’ fee).
Our place has limited space therefore we won’t have much space for couches or other big furniture.

I work as a programmer so I don’t need specific clothes for work. I can wear casual most of the
time and will buy clothes accordingly to the weather. I will most likely need around 5 shirts ($200) and 3
shorts ($150) and 2 pants ($100). When it becomes the winter, I will buy more jackets to cover up for
the cold. 2 pairs of shoes ($250) will be fine for me since I won’t be doing any intense workouts when I
work.
