Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live (SNL) is an American late-night live television variety
show. The show premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title
NBC's Saturday Night.

The show was originally called NBC's Saturday Night, because Saturday Night
Live was in use by Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell on the rival network
ABC
The show's comedy sketches, which parody contemporary culture and politics, are
performed by a large and varying cast of repertory and newer cast members.

Traditionally the host of the show ends the opening monologue by introducing the
musical guest for the night.

Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest, who usually delivers an opening

monologue and performs in sketches with the cast as with featured performances
by a musical guest.

Sometimes they even do the music bit themselves.

Guests that host five times (or more) are members of the Five-Timers Club (see
below)—a term that originated on December 8, 1990, when Tom Hanks became
the seventh person to host their fifth episode.

Throughout four decades on air, Saturday Night Live has received a number of
awards, including 64 Primetime Emmy Awards, four Writers Guild of America
Awards, and two Peabody Awards.

It was ranked tenth in TV Guide's "50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time" list

The show format has been developed and recreated in several countries, meeting
with different levels of success.

Most famous SNL Hosts

Jim Carrey
With his "Living Colour" and comedy background, it made perfect sense for
funnyman Jim Carrey to host "Saturday Night Live" in 1996. His most memorable
skits were with him playing the overprotective "Jacuzzi Lifeguard" opposite Will
Ferrell and the new "Roxbury Club" hopper with Ferrell and Chris Kattan.
Justin Timberlake
Although he's most known for his vocal talent, Justin Timberlake has proudly
showed off his comedic skills on "Saturday Night Live. The six-time Grammy-
winner made history by being the first "SNL" guest host to win an Emmy in the
Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Robert Deniro
While Robert DeNiro hasn’t joined the Five-Timers Club yet, his few stints as host
have been lively and mighty. For example, take his memorable 2008 skit where he
announced a list of most-wanted terrorists.

Dwayne Johnson
He is a member of the Five-Timers Club, hosting Saturday Night Live on March
18, 2000, April 13, 2002, March 7, 2009, March 28, 2015, and May 20, 2017

Romanian English Differences Similarities
