All right – so…I took a year off between high school and college and moved in with this guy Peter. He
was twenty-nine – a chef at this restaurant where I waited tables. He got really needy and possessive.
Asked me to marry him as soon as I turned eighteen. Freaked me out. I said “Maybe when I graduate
from college,” but as soon as I got to school I never spoke to him again. And then my first semester I
dated a drummer in this band. Luke. He was thirty-one. I ended it after a few months because when it
came down to it, he really wasn’t the sharpest knife in the rack. And when I left school to join the
campaign – well, there’s been a couple people on the campaign. Where’s that renewable energy story? I
don’t see it anywhere.

Hey Mess. I made you coffee. And pancakes. I
made too many so you’re going to have breakfast
for the next couple of days. My rent check is
on the fridge and my Statistics midterm is right
here in this folder. And I bought a bull horn,
since you’ll be here alone for the next few
days, that I’m keeping on the shelf. It says
“Not for indoor use” but if you need to use it
then you use it indoors, outdoors, on tours and
through the floors, you understand me?
