Third Week of Advent - Friday

John the Baptist came as “a witness to speak for the light”. As we prepare for the coming of
that light, we ask the Father to hear our prayers.

LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. That each member of the Church on earth may be watchful and ready for Christ’s coming.
Let us pray to the Lord.

2. That the leaders of nations may grant liberty to people who have been unjustly punished or
imprisoned. Let us pray to the Lord.

3. That like St. John, we may become worthy and credible witnesses of Jesus. Let us pray to
the Lord.

4. That those who are overburdened in life, especially the lonely and the sick, may experience
the joy of Advent. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. That the faithful departed may find the joy of everlasting life. Let us pray to the Lord.

Almighty Father, your mercy is from age to age; you fill the starving with good things. Teach
us to commit ourselves to your way of life. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Gospel: Jn 5:33-36

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

All - Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to the Jews, “You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth. I do not
accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so that you may be saved. He was a
burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have
testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works
that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.

- The Gospel of the Lord.

All - Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
