ALLELUIA
Alleluia (sung)
John 6:51-58
PRIEST : Jesus said to the crowd of the Jews: “I myself am the living
bread that came down from heaven. If anyone who eats this
bread he shall live forever; the bread I will give is my flesh for the
life of the world.” At this the Jews quarreled among themselves,
saying, “How can he give us his flesh to eat?” Thereupon Jesus
told them: “Let me solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the flesh
of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. He
who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I
will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my
blood is real drink. The man who feeds on my flesh and drinks my
blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the Father who has life,
sent me and I have life because of the Father, so the man who
feeds on me, will have life because of me. This is the bread that
came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and died
nonetheless, the man who feeds on this bread shall live forever.”
Celebrant: Dear children, when we were baptized, we passed from the old
life of sin to the new life with God. God chose to live in each
one of us. Today, let us renew the promises we made to live as
sons and daughters of God our Father, brothers and sisters of
Christ Jesus and temples of the Holy Spirit. Let us now profess
what we believe in.
Celebrant: Do you reject Satan?
All: I do.
All: I do.
All: I do.
All: I do.
Celebrant: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord who was
born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died and was buried,
rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the
Father?
All: I do.
Celebrant: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the
Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection
of the body and life everlasting?
All: Amen.
PRIEST : The Lord Jesus told us that the Father knows each one of
us by name, and knows the number of hairs on our
heads. Trusting in such loving kindness, we bring our
prayers before Him. In every petition let us say: HEAR
OUR PRAYER.
Child 1 -- For the Holy Father, bishops and priests, through whom the
Body and Blood of Jesus made present everyday, that they may
grow in fervent love for Jesus, and celebrate the Eucharist with
greater faith and devotion. Lord in your mercy.
Child 2 -- For the leaders of our nation, that their decisions may reflect
respect for the life and dignity of every human being and
manifest it in their concern for the poorest and most
vulnerable members of society. Lord in your mercy.
Child 3 -- For all those who work, that they may see their work as
participation in God's creation, and that they may
experience and promote economic justice and peace. Lord in
your mercy.
Child 5 -- For all the boys and girls in the world who will be receiving
Jesus for the first time this year, may we always live the
simplicity of faith, which brings us to a harmonious relationship
with God and with others. Lord in your mercy.
Child 6 -- For our parents and teachers who have prepared us for this
great day, that they may never grow weary of teaching us the
Catholic doctrine, and the depth of Jesus’ love in the Eucharist.
Lord in your mercy.
Child 7 -- For all of us, that God may renew our sight, so that we may
envision a new heaven and a new earth, a world in which all
men and women will work together joyfully in cooperation and
love. Lord in your mercy.
Child 8 -- For all our beloved dead, that they may receive forgiveness of
their sins, obtain reward of their goodness and gain everlasting
life. Lord in your mercy.
ALL : Amen.
