LITURGY OF THE FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

ENTRANCE PROCESSION (with their parents )

INTRODUCTION

Commentator:

Good afternoon my brothers and sisters in Christ! We come together

to acknowledge and give thanks to God, for all the blessings He has
bestowed upon us. This is a place where we can fellowship together in
remembrance of all that He has done. This is a place where we can
celebrate all of the benefits provided for us by His shed blood and broken
body. This is a place where all natural barriers cease to exist and we
recognize, honor, and respect all others who are also part of the Body of
Christ.

Today is a special and joyous day for Dominican School Manila

Community, especially for us children who will receive Jesus for the first
time in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. As young members of the
Body of Christ, we are happy because our parents, teachers, and friends
especially Fr. Louie R. Coronel, OP are here to celebrate with us as we
receive Jesus, the Bread of Life, for the first time. With grateful hearts, we
humbly pray that to receive the Holy Eucharist will strengthen our desire to
know Christ more fully, to love Him more dearly, and to follow Him more
closely.

And now, let us all stand and joyfully sing the entrance hymn.
THE ENTRANCE PROCESSION

Entrance Song

GATHER THE PEOPLE

Refrain:

Gather the people! Enter the feast!

All are invited, the greatest and least.
The banquet is ready, now to be shared.
Join in the heavenly feast that God has prepared.

Around this table we dine as kin,

Beloved family of God
We share the body of Christ, the Lord.
Here we become what we eat. Refrain

Around this table God’s bounty falls

on all who hunger and thirst.
We drink the fullness of Christ, the Lord.
So we become what we eat. Refrain

Around this table our hearts rejoice

in love that’s stronger than death.
We’ll rise in glory with Christ, the Lord.
Then we become what we eat. Refrain

Around this table we tell great tales,

the wondrous stories of grace.
We hold the memory of Christ, the
Lord. So we become what we eat. Refrain

parents handed to us. Our souls were made beautiful
with the grace of God. But as we grow, we choose to
say “Yes” always to ourselves and “No” to the will of
Jesus. This makes Jesus very sad. But because
Jesus is a merciful and loving brother, he makes ways
for us to be friends again. As we continue our
celebration, let us prepare to meet Jesus in the
Eucharist by asking forgiveness to our sins. (Pause )

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING

From the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians (11:23-26)

This is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same
night that He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it
and broke it, and He said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of
me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new
covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the
Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are
proclaiming His death.

The Word of the Lord.

ALL : Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Our blessing cup is a communion
with the Blood of Christ; and the Bread we break;
it is a sharing in the Body of the Lord

Commentator : Please all stand to honor the holy Gospel.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia (sung)

Verse before the Gospel(John 6:51-52)

All: “I am the living breadfrom heaven, says theLord;

if anyone whoeats this bread willlive forever.”

GOSPEL

PRIEST : The Lord be with you.

ALL : And with your spirit.

PRIEST : A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

John.

ALL : Glory to you, O Lord.

John 6:51-58

PRIEST : Jesus said to the crowd of the Jews: “I myself am the

living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone who
eats this bread he shall live forever; the bread I will give is
my flesh for the life of the world.” At this the Jews
quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can he give
us his flesh to eat?” Thereupon Jesus told them: “Let me
solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son
of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. He
who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life
eternal, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my
flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. The man who
feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and
I in him. Just as the Father who has life, sent me and I
have life because of the Father, so the man who feeds on
me, will have life because of me. This is the bread that
came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate
and died nonetheless, the man who feeds on this bread
shall live forever.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL : Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ.

Commentator: All be seated and listen to the homily.

HOMILY

RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES(Lighting of Candles)

Commentator : Communicants please stands and get your candles…

PRIEST : Today we celebrate with our children as they prepare to

receive the Sacrament of Communion for the first time.
None of us are good enough to presume upon these gifts,
but we are all made welcome by our Lord, God of grace.
The communion is about our relationship with God and
with other people as we join together in sharing bread and
one cup. St. Paul tells us that we risk much if we take
these without due care and reverence. Therefore as you
prepare to receive, it is important that you know what you
are doing. Communicants, the communion is about
belonging to God’s family. You have all been baptized into
that family.

Celebrant: We light this candle to remember Jesus. He is the

Light of the world. He is with us in this celebration.
(The candles are lit)

Celebrant: Dear children, when we were baptized, we passed

from the old life of sin to the new life with God.
God chose to live in each one of us. Today, let us
renew the promises we made to live as sons and
daughters of God our Father, brothers and sisters
of Christ Jesus and temples of the Holy Spirit. Let
us now profess what we believe in.

Celebrant: Do you reject Satan?

All: I do.

Celebrant: And all his works?

All: I do.

Celebrant: And all his empty promises?

All: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty creator

of heaven and earth?

All: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our

Lord who was born of the Virgin Mary, was
crucified, died and was buried, rose from the dead
and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?

All: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic

Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness
of sins, the resurrection of the body and life
everlasting?

All: Amen.
(The priest sprinkles the communicants with the holy water)
I SAW A STREAM

1. I saw a steam of living water bright and fresh and clear.

It braches out and moves so peacefully,
flowing all the year. Refrain

Refrain:
Living water (2x)
spreading goodness in an arid Land,
Eden’s rivers (2x)
never were so grand.

2. So come and drink of living water

Come and quench your thirst
Of all the streams that lead to Paradise
This one is the first. Refrain

3. The smallest cup of living water

Like the finest wine
Give joy and strength and true refreshment
Nothing tastes so fine. Refrain

Commentator: Communicants please blow your candles and put them down.
Please all stand.
