Conflict refers to the pursuit of incompatibility interests, needs and goals by different individuals, groups of people, parties or government. Those who are involved in conflicts are known as ‘parties’, actors or disputants. Conflict management is a community process involving the identification of the root causes of the problem, bringing all parties involved together and positively addressing the problem. Such a process usually ends with the guilty accepting wrong doing leading to forgiveness and reconciliation. In-short it refers to processes of mitigating the harmful effect of conflict. Peace building refers to a range of measures targeted at reducing the risk of relapsing (sliding back into conflict). According to Mpangala (2004), it is important to understand the nature of the conflict as well as the actors involved so as to determine the most appropriate and workable approaches towards conflict management. We must have African solutions to African problems.
