The British Cartographic Society (BCS) is an association of

individuals and organisations dedicated to exploring and
developing the world of maps.

It is a registered charity and is mostly ran by unpaid volunteers.

Membership includes mapping companies, publishers, designers,

academics, researchers, map curators, individual cartographers,
GIS specialists and ordinary members of the public with an

Better Mapping

Better Mapping promotes good cartographic practice to the mapping industry

and beyond.

Today’s aim:
To cover a range of topics and techniques to help you improve the
quality, accuracy and effectiveness of your maps and presentation
of geospatial data.

We also run Better Mapping workshops that have previously included both QGIS
and ArcGIS-based ones.

With so many different groups of people involved in visualising geodata now,

never before has the importance of understanding the fundamentals of good
map design been greater.
