Ayaskriti is commonly used ayurvedic medicine in Kerala for the treatment of urinary disorders, haemorrhoids,
leucoderma, skin diseases, and loss of appetite, worm infestation, anaemia, irritable bowel syndrome,
malabsorption disorders, and obesity (losing weight). The main action of Ayaskriti appears on the Vata Dosha and
Kapha Dosha. It reduces accumulation of body fat by inducing fat burning. The most effects are observed on belly
fat accumulation. However, its regular use helps to reduce overall body weight with slight variation in results
person-to-person.
Ayaskriti consists of two words – AYAS, which means iron and KRITI, which means technique. The formulation
prepared using iron is called Ayaskriti.
Pharmacological Actions
Ayaskriti improves digestion, metabolism and assimilation. Its iron content increases the iron level in the
blood, so it helps in anaemia. It induces burning of the accumulated fats, which may be mediated by iron
and lipolytic action of other herbs present in it.

Anaemia
Iron is the main content in Ayaskriti, so it is highly beneficial in iron deficiency anaemia. It is more useful
in anaemia when patient has Kapha and Vata symptoms like feeling of cold to the touch, dropsy skin,
fatigue, exhaustion, constipation with sticky stools, etc.
Obesity
According to ayurveda, iron has lipolytic activity (LEKHANA KARMA) and iron deficiency is also
linked with obesity. Obesity may lead to iron deficiency and vice versa. Lipolysis of adipocytes may also
be mediated by iron, according to some research studies. (1, 2, 3)
Almost all ingredients in Ayaskriti also have anti-obesity activities, so it is the best ayurvedic medicine
for the obesity. If obese people also suffering from iron deficiency anaemia and other Increased Kapha
Symptoms, then it will be the best suitable medicine for obese people.
Caution: However, it may not be suitable for people who have Aggravated Pitta Symptoms. So, it may
not be used in all cases of obesity. One should understand the deep core concepts of ayurveda before
using ayurvedic medicines like Ayaskriti.

Safety Profile
However, Ayaskriti is likely safe when used wise according to predominance of Kapha Dosha. It is also
considerably safe for Vata Conditions. The side effects may appear when it is used in Pitta condition
unwisely.

Contraindications
However, there is no absolute contraindication for Ayaskriti, but it should be contraindicated in iron
overload (hemochromatosis) in the body, as per theoretical science because of its iron content.
