Using the Refine Edge in Photoshop

(To make a selection and include Hair)

1- Open the background photo

2- Drag the portrait on top ( or file -> place embedded)
3- Use quick selection to select the subject roughly
4- Select -> refine edge (or select and mask in newer versions)
5- Use the refine brush
6- Trace around the contour / edge of the person (especially the hair)
7- Check decontaminate colors (under output options)
8- Click on “OK”
PS: this works best when the original background is a plain color, not a busy scenario
