HAND GRENADE

EXPLOSIVE A.-G. CARBONIT

HAMBERG
FACTORY SCHLEBUSCH AT CӦLN AM RHEIN
The hand grenades known to date have the disadvantage that it is necessary to
de-energize the detonator to release the detonator, or to initiate the
operation of the grenade by putting a detonating cord into it.

In any case, before throwing in the hands of the deceased, a sharp [live]
grenade is liable, which may easily cause bad luck (for example, by dropping
shells shed with pins and by throwing at the detonator grenades).
These serious deficiencies are with the hand grenades the explosive A.-G.
Carbonite not present, as they have an igniter, which has a fuse that is
triggered automatically after the litter. The grenade is thus completely
secured before throwing. The detonator only becomes hot after the grenade
elwa has flown 10-15 meters. Failure to drop a grenade without damage will
not put the detonator's fuse in action: it can therefore be carried without
danger.

Blasting pieces of a bursting hand grenade

The hand grenades consist of bullet [fragmentation] shell the charge and
detonator

The shell is made of steel and has a pear-shaped shape. She picks up the fuse
and the charge.
The load consists either of about 400 grams of trotyl [TNT] or of about 275
grams of trotyl [TNT] and about 60 pieces of each 10 gram steel balls.

The detonator, a ready impact fuze, takes all parts necessary for its action
ready for loading, is insensitive to shocks in the storage and during
transport, is throw safe, d. H. it becomes sharp[live] only after throwing,
and arranges a separate storage of grenade and detonator.

Finishing grenades to throw can be done by the most untrained people.

The finished hand grenades have a weight of about 1.1 kilograms, if they are
loaded only with explosives, and one of about 1.6 kilograms, if the charge
consists of trotyl[TNT] and steel balls.

FUNCTIONING OF THE HAND GRENADES

The thrower, who has gripped the hand grenade, retrieves the throw to the
rear and throws the grenade, letting go of the grasp. In the case of a spin-
like retraction, the strong spring 1, which is tensioned in rotation,
contracts as a result of the centrifugal force, with the housing 2 firmly
connected with it retracting and a groove attached to its lower edge being
removed from the lever 3.

After releasing the handle, the spring 1 snaps forward again and rotates
smoothly, on account of its double tension, the housing 2 by about 90˚. Now
puts a full part of the lower edge of the housing 2 on the upper lever arm of
the lever 3, whereby this is folded over. At this moment, the tensioned on
spring spring 4 rolls on and forces the locking pin 5 connected to her to a
rotating movement, where it unscrews from the firing pin 6.

When the grenade hits the firing pin 6, due to the persistence, with his
primer quick. The primer drops onto the needle 7 and is poked by it and
causes inflammation. The fire jet overlaps on the detonator 8, which in turn
brings the explosive charge to detonation

Hand grenades are also supplied for practice purposes which are provided
without filling or with a small powder filling which does not destroy the
grenade.
