Lesson Idea Name: Transformations

Content Area: Geometry
Grade Level(s): High School Geometry (10th grade)
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE9-12.G.CO.5 Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or
translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software.
Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
Technology Standard Addressed: 4a students know how to use a design process to create innovative works
to solve and present solution to transformation problems

Selected Technology Tool: Inspiration

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☒ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Inspiration has closed captioning. This will aid with hearing impaired
students.

Lesson idea implementation: In this assignment students groups will use inspiration software to create a
scavenger hunt on transformations. The translations will include the following:
Rotations
Translations
Reflections
Dilations.
After students are given an overview of the different types of transformations. Students will be given a week
to work on this project. They will assessed on accuracy and complexity of problems. The final project will
help to determine what students have a firm grasp on basic and complex geometric transformations.
Students will than set up their scavenger hunt and other students will participate in the scavenger hunt.
Students who need additional practice would be identified and then given assistance and practice.

Reflective PracticeThis activity will show how deep an understanding of geometric transformations. Students
will be allowed to use their creative side to show what they know in math. While students area participating
in the scavenger hunt they will have to opportunity to work in groups and gain a better understanding of
transformations my designing their own problems.
