• As an interesting fact, the city of San Diego has been called “the birthplace of
California” as it was the first place visited by European on what we know now as
the South Coast in the USA. It was a Spaniard, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo who
claimed the area for Spain forming in that way the basis for the settlement of Alta
California 200 later.
• In 1821 San Diego, well California, became part of the newly independent
Mexico.
• in 1848 it became part of the USA and finally, it was recognized as a state in
1850.
• Regarding the city, San Diego is considered the economic centre of San Diego
County and also of Tijuana.
