Dear Friends,
Gloria Dei will be spending time in the month of October considering how we have been
showered by God’s blessings as people of God and how we, in turn, are called to shower others with
blessings. As I’ve been packing up my home and office and preparing to say good-bye to you, dear
friends, I cannot help but consider the multitudes of ways you have showered me with God’s
blessings over the last nine years! There really are too many moments to list, but here are some of
the times and things for which I’ve felt extremely blessed!

The way the light shines in through the church & changes all day - sometimes making shadows of
our cross curtain on the floor - so amazing!

The smell of the church

The birdies outside my office window

The rolling fields around church and the honey bees in the field we burn every other spring

Confirmation class - highs and lows, deep discussions, camp, my amazing and awesome mentors

Bad Girls of the Bible Book club we have grown to see many other sides of each other and become
friends, through stories!

Thank you so much for being the most amazing congregation for which I
could’ve ever dreamed of serving! As Annette sings each mother’s day, and

Karen’s Korner

One of our lighter moments at council meetings is when we tease Pastor Vicki about the length of her written
reports. It seems she can send thanks to every member of the congregation for something they have done in
the past month. But, we know that she is really uplifting the people of Gloria Dei by saying ‘See, what you
do for Gloria Dei and the Lord is important in the ministry of making Christ known.’

It makes me wonder how long our own list of thanks would be if we began expressing our appreciation to
Pastor. Let me get it started, and I’m sure you will add your own as our remaining weeks together fly by.
Thanks Pastor Vicki for laughing yoga, personality profiles, and stories with bridges. Thanks for loving our
kids and caring compassionately in our times of need. Every Sunday you let us know that God loves us, cares
for us, and shelters us in that love. And then we watch you move into your week, living that love and
sheltering us in all we do. You set a powerful example of living in Christ.

So it is with mutual love for each other that we can send you off to new adventures in Christ, knowing that
the cords that bind us together will be stretched across the miles, but cannot be broken. We are a part of each
other in mission. Thanks PV.

Men’s Club Hike Outing
Join the men of Gloria Dei for an overnight
Gloria Dei Book Club – DAY
hike Saturday to Sunday, October 9-10, at the CHANGE
Ice Age Trail beginning near Glenbeulah. The The book club will meet Thursday,
overnight shelter near Parnell Tower is October 7 at 7pm at Blanche
reserved.  Don't miss it! Sign up will be Brenwall’s home 508 North Street
coming on the kiosk.  Talk to Mike Hetzner Kiel. We will discuss Olive Kitterage
for information.

Thanks to those of you who signed up for
Tables for Eight! Sherry Wilberscheid will
be assigning groups soon!
A couple years ago we created a great
small group that still meets. We have lots
of new young moms and are wondering if
there is interest in forming a new small
group! Please plan to gather for the first
time at Gloria Dei on Sunday August 15 to
meet one another and plan a next meeting

Church Clean Up!!!!
Since we’ve lost our janitorial service, our church
could really use a good scrub up! Please plan to
drop in at some time on Friday, October 8 (all
day) and spend some time helping us clean the
church! Cleaning jobs will be posted in the
narthex – even if you can only give 20 minutes, it
really helps!

Treat sharing! you heard that Stewardship and the your Council
Volunteer Opportunties! have been working with Reverend Don Staude in
developing the Fall Stewardship Event. We were
blessed at our meetings with Reverend Staude. I
Gloria Dei Calendar for September 2010 particularly was shocked, yes "shocked" to learn
Oct 2 Youth Group to the Gambler’s Game that we were not to hold a Fall Program. We also
Oct 3 Worship 9:00am were instructed to "forget about the Budget". Our
Sunday School 10:15am mission is "Making Christ Known,” our direction
Oct 5 Council Meeting with 7:00pm is doing just that.
Bishop Jim Justman – congregation invited!
Oct 6 Confirmation 5:30pm We had (again me particularly) were taught the
Choir 6:00pm meaning of Stewardship, "how have I been
Worship 7:00pm blessed and how can I share those blessings".
“A Blessed Event” kicks off Faith based Stewardship now (to me at least),
Oct 7 Early Morning Bible Study 6:30am makes more sense than how Stewardship was
Book Club 7:00pm perceived in the past. Stewardship is year round,
Brenwall Home not just a single month of focus!
Oct 8 Church Clean Up – all day!
Oct 9 Men’s Club hike begins Now let me get to the point. We will have a Fall
Oct 10 Worship 9:00am Stewardship "Event", or “The Blessed Event” as
“A Blessed Event” kicks off it has become commonly known among our
Sunday School 10:15am members. The theme for the event is "Showers of
Baptisms:Eddie Le Mieux & Anton Wiskow Blessings". The "Event" will be highlighted for
Men’s Club hike wraps up five weeks and kicked off starting Wednesday
PV’s Farewell 4-7pm October 6th and Sunday October 10.
Oct 13 Confirmation Orientation 5:30pm
Choir 6:00pm The Stewardship Committee is excited to bring
Worship 7:00pm this event to you. You will hear temple talks on
Oct 14 Early Morning Bible Study 6:30am various subjects relating on how we have been
Oct 17 Worship 9:00am blessed. You will invited to share your blessings
Confirmation Day each week by putting them on rain drop cards that
