Handout: Your Daily Routine

Mantra - an expression or idea that is repeated, often without
thinking about it, and closely associated with something.
Encarta Dictionary

Your library mantra refers to your daily routine – something you do everyday when you come in
without someone reminding you. Your mantra consists of:

 Walk Through
 Chairs
 Bin
 Section

Walk Through – Each period is responsible for walking through the library to be sure it is
clean and ready for the next period.

 Push in all chairs.

 Walk around the perimeter of the library.
 Look for books that need shelving on the bookshelves and the tables. Put books back on
the return shelves.
 Look for books that are leaning and push them upright.
 Remove all trash on the floor, furniture, and tables.
 Put away magazines.

The walk through will be evaluated

as a group, but the library practice
students in each period can divide
the duties in any way they choose.
Duties can be rotated or divided, as
long as all agree. To the right is a
sample of the evaluation sheet. Each
evaluation has a value of 50 points.
How often and when we conduct an
evaluation is random. Sometimes we
set “traps” to see if you are doing a
thorough job, so keep your eyes
open!

Bin – The library book return bin is located in the end of the circulation desk. Empty the bin at
the beginning of each period and check-in the books. See the Library Circulation information
sheet for the check-in procedure.

Section – Check the shelving shelves for any books and shelve them. Straighten your section
and check for books shelved incorrectly. See the Shelving Library Books information sheet for
shelving procedures.
