Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

Once upon a time, a young man went to a fair. He bought gifts for his young wife and parents.
The gift for his wife was shiny and looked interesting. According to the seller, it was something
new in town and nobody had one like it.

When he returned home, he gave his wife the gift. She looked at it and saw a lovely woman
with shiny black hair and round eyes staring back at her. She thanked her husband for the gift.
However, when he left, she began to cry. Her mother-in-law quickly came to see what the
matter was.

“Oh, a beautiful young woman has followed my husband from the fair,” the young wife said.
The mother-in-law was surprised. “Look for yourself,” the young wife said.

The mother-in-law looked at the gift and laughed loudly. “There‟s no beautiful young
woman. There‟s only an old woman with white hair and only one tooth,” she said.

Just then, the father-in-law came into the house. After the two women explained what had
happened, he said, “Let me see that.”

He looked into it and was surprised to see a man staring back at him. He frowned and the
man frowned back. He stuck his tongue out and so did the man.

“Oh! You‟re looking for a quarrel, are you?” said the father–in-law. Then, he punched the
gift. It broke into tiny pieces.

“There!” said the father-in-law to his wife and daughter in law. “Now, no one will trouble
you.”
