Do not open this booklet until you are told to do so. Read and observe all
instructions carefully and ensure that all answers are brief and properly
demonstrate your understanding of the concepts. Marks will be provided
for clarity of expression.
The booklet consists of two parts. Answer paper 2 which comes first, in
your answer booklet and paper 1 on your objective test answer sheet.
Paper 2 will last for 1 hour and paper 1 will last for 1 hour. Do not start
paper 1 until you are told to do so.

1. a) In a class of 42 student each student studies either Economics or Accounting or both. If 12
students study both subjects and the number of students who study Accounting only is twice
that of those who study Economics only, find how many students study

2. a) The cost of production of a wireless set was GH¢ 40.00. The manufacturer sold it to a
wholesaler at a profit of 20 per cent. The wholesaler also sold it to a retailer at a profit of 25%.
The retailer marked the set to be sold at a price of 50 per cent above what she paid for it.
(i) Find the marked price.
(ii) To a customer who paid cash, the retailer reduced the price to GH¢ 75.00. Find the
percentage discount. [5 MARKS]

3. a) Water is flowing into a tank at the rate of 20 cm3/min. At the start there is 250 cm3 of water in
the tank. Find:
(i) How much water there is in the tank after 30 minutes?
(ii) The time when there is 1210 cm3 of water in the tank. [4 MARKS]

4. a) Mrs. Patterson started from her house at 9.45 a.m. to visit her son at Methodist High School at
a speed of 36 km/h. She stopped for 15 minutes at 10.15 a.m. to make an urgent call. She then
continued with her journey at a speed of 45 m/s and finally arrived at 11.00 a.m. Find the
distance between Mrs. Patterson’s house and Methodist High School. [5 MARKS]
b) Simplify and factorize the following expressions:
(i) 13 x 2−23 x+13+ 7 x2 −20 x +8
(ii) 10 x 2−23 x+12 [4 MARKS]
c) Find the value of h in diagram below. [6 MARKS]

5. Using a scale of 2 cm to 2 units on each axis, draw on a graph sheet two perpendicular axes Ox
and Oy for intervals −10 ≤ x ≤ 10 and −10 ≤ y ≤ 10.
a) Draw a triangle with vertices A(6,8), B(2,5) and C(7,2).
b) Draw the image triangle A1B1C1 of triangle ABC under an enlargement with scale factor ‒1
from the origin, where A → A1, B → B1, C → C1. Label the vertices and co-ordinates
clearly.
