Weekly Journal Writing (April 13 to April 17, 2014)

Work Done:

As I am working in the foreign exchange department of Al Arafah Islami bank Limited, Banani
Branch. So, in this week I have done several things are listed below.

 Bangladesh bank required monthly foreign import list. So, I have filled all the required
information in the form.
 HS Code searched and put entry.
 Found out the BC selling rate.

Learning and Achievements:

HS code - The HS is intended to serve as a universally accepted classification system for goods
so countries can administer customs programs and collect trade data on exports and imports. It
was designed to replace the local systems used by countries allowing them to have a common
classification system by which to track trade and apply tariffs. The basic system uses a 6-digit
number to identify basic commodities. Each country is allowed to add additional digits for
statistical purposes. It was developed under the auspices of the Customs Cooperation Council
(CCC) now known as the World Customs Organization (WCO). The WCO, located in Brussels
is an international organization consisting of representatives of about 139 countries or territories.

Here is an example given of Hs code below:

BC selling rate – It is the dollar rate in which bangle Tk will be sold.

OD site today rate - Each and every day dollar rate fluctuate so it is the daily rate.

Exporter Retention Quota (ERQ) – As Bangladesh is a export oriented country. So in

Bangladesh government has given a lot of incentive to the exporters. ERQ is such a quota where
an exporters do not have to give tax for some RMG products.

Observations / reflections:

From my academic period I have learned many things about the exporter’s advantage and
disadvantage. But from my internship program I came to understand actually how much an
exporter is really benefited. From my academic provision I have learned many things about the
outer world, but in from the practical experience a have learned that there are so many export
related items which would not be possible to export without government support because
Bangladesh is a developing nation.

Notable incidents:

In this week there is not much notable incident but only I have found that employees productivity
increase when there is a friendly environment and when there is not much rules and regulations.
