PRELIMINARY LECTURE

IN
EFFECTIVE SPEECH

At the end of the course, the students are expected to


understand the major concepts concerning speech communication;
demonstrate an understanding of the role and perception of
communication, demonstrate correct pronunciation, stress and
accentuation of words, phrases and sentences, and appear confident
in oral communication situations.

SPEECH – the power of expressing thoughts by speaking.

COMMUNICATION – refers to the transmission or exchanging of ideas,


thoughts and information thru verbal and nonverbal form of media.

COMMUNICATION PROCESS – refers to the cycle how communication is


being done.

Three Types of Communication


1. VERBAL COMMUNICATION – refers to a medium of communication
that uses words/language.
2. NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION – refers to a medium of
communication that uses body gestures/ facial expression.
3. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION – refers to all print media such as
magazine, newspaper etc. as a form of communication.
