Answer :
Communication : Communication is defined as the process of understanding and sharing
meaning.
Communication is the Latin word which means “to share” .It is the act of giving, receiving and
sharing information through verbal and non verbal methods .Good communicators listen
carefully, speak or write clearly and respect different opinions.
Components of communication:
Context: Context in communication refers to the way that communication is giving meaning.
It is essential to the effective communication .Factors like physical location and characteristics,
the culture associated with communicators and the expected behavior based on past behaviors
can influence the context. There are four context of communication:
 How the culture impacts the communication is cultural context.
 The expectations people have for the communication based on past behaviors is temporal
context.
 The feelings and relationship present is social –psychological context.
 The area and physical aspects where communication takes place is the physical context.
Message: A message is the compilation of information .It is basically the basic idea which you
want to communicate .The message may be verbal or non-verbal .While preparing the message
you should keep in mind that how your receiver would interpret it. Verbal message include
written or spoken messages while non- verbal messages includes sign ,pictures etc.
Medium: Communication medium refers to the method we use to communicate as well as the
specific tools we use in communication process .It affects how the audience will receive
message. There are two types of communication channels ,each have its own strengths and
weaknesses and oftentimes we can use more than one channel. Oral medium used for early,
urgent and personal feedback while the written medium is used for delayed ,long ,technical and
formal messages.
Sender: In communication process, the sender is the individual who initiates the message and is
also called communicator .The sender might be a speaker ,a writer or someone who merely
gestures. The individual or group of individuals who responds to the sender is called the receiver
or audience .In communication and speech theory, the reputation of the sender is important in
providing credibility and validation to his or her statements and speech but attractiveness and
friendliness ,too ,play roles in a receiver’s interpretation of the sender’s message.
Sender: In the communication process, the receiver is the listener, reader or observer, that is the
individual to whom the message is directed. The receiver is also called audience or decoder.
Context of communication effects both sender or receiver .Receiver may be a listener in case of
oral message or reader incase of written message.
Feedback: Without feedback communication is nothing more than information .This makes
feedback the primary component in the process of communication because it gives the
opportunity to the sender to analyze the effect of message .It helps the sender to ensure that the
recipient has interpreted the message correctly.
