Lito D. Maquiling. That's Lito Doria Maquiling. Born in Pantukan,
Davao Province -- now COMVAL. He grew up there but found his
way to the city to find more of life and to study at the Southeastern
University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial
Education degree. He married into the Dajao-Surban families of
Fatima -- taking for his spouse, Grazelda Dajao Surban, his classmate
at the university. They have 3 children : Josiah, Yoyo, and Yeye. Now,
he is Punong Barangay of Brgy 25-C.
Brgy. 25-C is the area bounded by Quezon Boulevard in
the East, Fatima St. in the South, Pag-asa St. in the South-
West, and Ponce St. in the North. There are less than 200
structures -- residences and businesses, it is more a
residential community. There are about 300 households,
renters included ; the population is somewhere 3,000 ;
voters about 2,000. Across Fatima St. are the Church and
The Our Lady of Fatima Academy. Across Boulevard is the
Piapi Market, and across Ponce St. are 5 public
elementary schools and 1 high school. Within walking
distances are the campuses of the Ateneo and The Holy
Child. Only 1 jeepney ride to City Hall and the center of
the City. More or less an ideal location.
Starting 1974, 11 Punong Barangays have served.
Maquiling is therefore the 12th (Bacalla, Baldado, Eva,
San Juan, Santos, Clemente Tamayo, Lacuesta, Isonza,
Manloza, Escasinas, Carmelo Tamayo).

Today the barangay administration is holding office in a

barangay hall which can easily be accessed via Boulevard
or via Aurora Quezon.

Members of the current Sanggunian : Lito Maquiling

Vision : A Humane Community

Mission . . .

(A) the up-liftment of the citizens'

(1) physical-material,
(2) mental-intellectual,
(3) spiritual -psychical circumstances ;
(B) conjoining individual needs, desires,
strivings,
and achievements ;
(C) designing a collaborative thrust to tackle
difficulties and obstacles.
Before the legal birth of the area as Barangay 25-C,
a number of notable information may be cited. This
was where Engr. Vicente Albay resided and
operated a taxi outfit, one of the first in the city,
the ZRA Taxi (named after spouse Zosima R. Albay).
Here also, Bonifacio Tamayo, Sr., a city councilman,
rsided and raised his family -- two of his children
eventually became Punong Barangays. One other
city official lived here, City Assessor Claudio
Montañez. Then Regional Director of The Bureau
Of Forestry, Dir. Rebosura also stayed in the area
for a number of years.
There too were private residents whose names do
ring bells. Dr. Rizal Aportadera began his medical
practice here. Now of course his name ranks
among the best doctors in the City. We had here
the husband and wife -- and son, dentistry team :
Drs. Rodolfo Mariano (Sr. & Jr.) and Dra. Mariano.
Here too were and are Atty. Amor Yap and spouse
Atty. Linda Yap, who had a stint as BIR Director.
Finally, Gov. Magundadatu, now very prominent
in Central Mindanao, did live for a number of
years in an apartment. For a relatively short
period, Councilor Nenen R. Orcullo had her office
here.
A landmark that was up way back and still is in-
place, is the gasoline station in Quezon Blvd. corner
Gempesaw. It was a Caltex station of Afable, and
one of the first in the Boulevard-Sta. Ana districts
area. Today though, it has become a Phoenix
Station. of someother businessman. Another then
and now landmark would be the Consolacion
Function House. There once was the Fatima
Community Center which trained youth from all
over in Hotel Jobs, electronics, and electricity.
Graduates were absorbed by city etablishments,
one worth mentioning were the starting working
groups of Maguindanao Hotel.
The Our Lady Of Fatima Academy although the main
campus was across the street, had rooms in the Brgy.
25 area, now even, the elementary building has been
erected here. The world renouwned Motheer Teresa
congregation operated a Center here, their initial
setup. Finally that NGO, Gawasnong Pagbalay,
offering construction materials at NGO prices.

By itself, the area did not have much in community

events that could be said as really worth
remembering and mentioning. Fiestas were generally
parish events, and the Church is in fact in Brgy. 24-C.
