Modern US HISTORY

Course Descriptions:
The United States History from post reconstruction to modern age: Students will examine the major
turning points in American history from the time just after the Civil War to the period immediately following
9/11.

Classroom Rules & Expectations:

 Be on time. Come ready to work and learn.


 Be prepared. Come to class with all of the materials you will need each day.
 Be respectful of your classmates and your teacher.
 Be responsible for yourself (make-up work, assignments, etc.).
 Be fair to those around you (be honest, show integrity, be courteous).
 Be considerate of my classroom - keep it clean.
 Respect school property. If you mess it up, clean it up.
 Pay attention in class.
 Rudeness, disrespect, and disruptions of any kind will not be tolerated. Students will be dismissed from
this classroom if they engage in these activities.

 Parent contact
 Office referral

Expectations of Students:

 Attend class each day and be ready to learn.


 Respect for the teacher, other students, and school property.
 Obey all classroom and school rules.
 Follow directions the first time they are given.
 Bring needed materials to class every day.
 Participate appropriately.
 Complete all assignments.
 Be honest, do your own work, and be a responsible student.
 Ask questions when you do not understand the material being covered.
 Provide adequate outside study time.
Procedures:

15 - 15 Rule:

 No one will be allowed to leave the room for the first 15 minutes of class or the last 15 minutes of class.

Group work:

 Whisper
 If the groups next to you can hear you, you are too loud.
 Group work is a privilege, not a right. If you abuse it, no more group work.

Leaving the Room:

 Once the tardy bell rings, students will leave the room only with teacher permission.
 Acceptable excuses for leaving the room are an emergency, medical reason that's on file in the office, if the
student is called to the office by an administrator, office staff, teacher, or with teacher permission.

Bell-ringers:

 Every day when students enter the classroom, there will be a bell-ringer on the board for the students to complete.
 Students are expected to enter the classroom quietly, take their seats, and immediately begin on their work.
 Students are expected to complete these daily. They will be graded at the end of each week.

Bathroom:

 Bathroom must be used between classes unless a doctor’s note is provided.

Tests:

 All tests will be announced at least three days prior to test date.
 Test questions will come from lecture notes, assigned readings, and class discussion.
