Aquifers come in two types which are shown below: unconfined

and confined.

Unconfined aquifers are those into which water seeps from the
ground surface directly above the aquifer.

Confined aquifers are those in which an impermeable dirt/rock

layer exists that prevents water from seeping into the aquifer
from the ground surface located directly above. Instead, water
seeps into confined aquifers from farther away where the
impermeable layer doesn't exist.

Which type do think is in more danger of contamination? Which

aquifer would you want to drill into for a drinking water well?
Answers below.

1. The distinction between the water table and thepiezometric, also known as
potentiometric, surface is the difference between the naturally occurring surface
of water in a groundwater aquifer and the surface of water in a monitoring well in a
confined aquifer.
2. Water horsepower is the minimum power that is required to move the water (Figure
2). ... The following formula can be used to calculate water horsepower (WHP).
WHP = HQ / 3960. Where H is the change in pressure measured in height
of water in feet and Q is the water flow rate in gallons per minute.
3. brake horsepower
an imperial unit of power, equal to one horsepower but used only as a measure of
the power available at the shaft of an engine.
