DEGREES OF THE ADJECTIVES

The Beetle is older than the Porsche. The Ford T is the oldest.
The Ford T is more expensive than the Beetle. But the Porsche is the most expensive.

Adjectives have comparative and superlative forms. Try to complete this table:

FORM OF COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES:

 Short adjectives (one syllable)  add -er/-est


example: old – older than – the oldest

 Long adjectives (3 or more syllables)  add more / most


example: expensive – more expensive than – the most expensive

 Adjectives with 2 syllables ending in consonant+y  take out the -y and add
–ier/ -iest
example: happy – happier than – the happiest

 Other adjectives with 2 syllables take more / most


example: nervous – more nervous – the most nervous

IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES:
