Lindsay Shanahan joined J-PAL Global in 2016 as an


Education Associate, where she provides support to the MITx
MicroMasters in Data, Economics and Development Policy
program as well as the development of the new blended
Master’s program. Prior to joining J-PAL, Lindsay worked for
an education company which assisted international students
looking to pursue high school in the United States. She
earned her bachelor's degree in political science with a
focus on Middle Eastern studies from the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst in 2014.

Why should you pursue this credential?
Reach: Open to anyone with computer and internet access – there are no
formal prerequisites. Anyone can participate!

Rigor: Courses offer the same challenge as residential MIT classes – and
combine theoretical tools with practical skill-building.

Flexibility: All courses run 3x per year – you can spread out the coursework and
exams based on your schedule.

Access: Learners are charged between $100 and $1000 per course –
depending on their ability to pay.

Credit: Learners admitted to the blended Master’s program will earn MIT
credit for their MicroMasters courses.

Tips from a TA: How to succeed in the MicroMasters
program
•Do problem sets early- that way questions
have time to be answered on the forum.
•Carefully review the answers/explanations
for lecture exercises and problem sets.
•Don’t expect to earn 90%, even if you’re
usually a 90% student.
•Seek out supplementary material
(Especially if you’re interested in the
blended degree!)

Amanda S.
MicroMasters in DEDP Credential Holder

Amanda S. is from Brazil and received the B.Sc. In


Economics from Insper in 2017. She has been working with
research on education and how Brazilian policies could be
improved and increase social benefits. Working as a
teaching assistant of Econometrics helped her to see data
analysis as an important role to improve the decision-making
process. She wants to keep studying and use data analysis
to contribute to social well-being.

Andrés P.
MicroMasters in DEDP Credential Holder

Andrés is an incoming Senior Associate at the Delhi office


of IDinsight, an international development consulting
organization that focuses on using rigorous evidence to
generate social impact. Previously, Andrés was the Research
Manager for the Centre for Experimental Social Sciences, a
collaboration between Oxford University's Nuffield College and
FLAME University based in Pune, India. He has also worked as a
research consultant with faculty at the Oxford Blavatnik School
of Government and the Indian Institute of Management -
Ahmedabad. A MOOC enthusiast, Andrés holds a BA in East
Asian Studies from Princeton University. He likes to dance salsa in
his free time.
