Troubleshooting Resources

Clean out tmp files

If you have excessive tmp files on the system, it can hinder the saving, printing, and exporting of
files. Here is what you need to do.

Press and hold the Windows key (between the Ctrl and the Alt keys to the left of the spacebar).
While pressing this key, tap the letter R. This will open the Run command box. Type: “%tmp%”
and tap the Enter key. When the folder opens, select one file and while pressing the Ctrl key, tap
the letter A, which will select all files. Press the Delete key on the keyboard.

If a message appears that the file is in use or open, select the check box that says “do this for all
items” and click Skip. Close the tmp folder when done.

Install Ghostscript
If you are having issues with importing AI, EPS or PDF files, install Ghostscript. Go to Programs
and Features in the Windows Control Panel and right-click CorelDRAW Graphics Suite XX and
select Uninstall/Change. Ensure that Modify is selected and click Next. Click Next again and
ensure that Ghostscript is installed by placing a check mark in the appropriate box, and click
OK. Once you install Ghostrscript, CorelDRAW will automatically start using it for importing and
exporting of EPS (PDF) and PS files.

Reset the Application Defaults

This should be done if the application is not performing as expected or menus seem to be
missing or corrupt.

Press and hold the Windows key (between the Ctrl and the Alt keys to the left of the
spacebar). While pressing this key, tap the letter R. This will open the Run command box. Type:
“%appdata%” and press Enter.

Open the Corel folder and rename the Corel Graphics Suite XX folder. Close these folders and
launch CorelDRAW while pressing the F8 key. A message will appear that reads: “Are you sure
that you wish to overwrite the current workspace settings with the factory defaults?” Answer yes.

Check Video Driver Version
If you are having display issues or printing to a non-PostScript printer and having problems, an outdated
video driver may be the culprit. To check the video driver, do the following:
Press and hold the Windows key (between the Ctrl and the Alt keys to the left of the spacebar). While this
pressing this key, tap the letter R. This will open the Run command box. Type: “dxdiag” and press Enter.
You may see a message that asks: “Do you want to see if the drivers are digitally signed?” Click OK. On
the Display or Display 1 tab (third line down on the right-hand side), look at the date. If the date is any
more than 3–6 months old, update the driver. The make and model can be found on the first line on the
left side of this same tab.

If you are having issues installing the application

Try the Safe Mode.
1. Click Start.
2. In the search box at the bottom, type “msconfig,” without the quotation marks, and press Enter.
3. This will open the System Configuration.
4. Click on the Boot tab on top.
5. Put a check mark beside “Safe boot” and click on Network. Click OK and restart the computer when
prompted. Once you are in Safe Mode, try installing your product.

Once the installation is complete, click on Start, type “msconfig” into the search box again and press
Enter. Select Normal Startup on the General tab and click OK. Restart the computer when prompted.
This should return you to “normal” Windows operation.

Repair Install
Click Start > Control Panel (in Windows 8, tap the Windows key +I Click on the Control Panel), and then
click on Programs and Features.

Once the list has populated, right-click on CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and select Uninstall/Change.
Wait for the setup to initialize.

Once initialized, select Repair and then click on Repair in the lower-right corner. Follow the prompts to
completion.

With a bit of preventative maintenance ensuring that drivers and service packs are up to date, you will
have worry-free designing.

Closing Comments
It is with my sincere appreciation and gratitude that I thank you for not only watching this course, but
much more importantly for being a CorelDRAW user, one that uses the tool to get the job done without all
the fuss and wasted time trying to figure it out.

Also, thank you to my content manager, Kristin; my producer, Brett; and the entire Post-Production team.
Happy designing,
Roger Wambolt
