Samscene 1: on a cruise

(Everyone wandering on deck)

Cruise director: Welcome to the Squid Cruise where we have fun activities such as eating, swimming,
lounging and of course, performing in our world famous dance competition! I’ll be coming around to do
sign ups!
(Gabriella is sitting and doing lanyard)
(Troy is examining his magic card deck)
Cruise Director: You (to Gabriella) with the lanyard and you with the cards. I’m signing you up!
Gabriella: Uh, I can’t, I don’t dance!
Cruise Director: I know you can!
Troy: I only know magic and gaga, I can’t do it
(both are pushed to stage with resistance)
Ba Kalil plays (they dance together and have fun, clearly become friends)

Scene 2

Start of Session 2
Living in the real world, didn't understand
That anything can happen, when you are at camp
I’ve always believed in, the kehillah at camp
Where we’re supported and loved (Ohh) by all our friends and staff members

I know that nothing will change

‘Cause I’m here to stay
And right here, right now

This could be the start of Session Two

It feels so right to be here with you, oh
And now, spending time with you
I feel so at home the start of Session Two (x3)

(Troy throws a frisbee which hits Gabriella in the head, she falls and he comes to help her. They
recognize each other)
Troy: I don’t
Gab: Believe it.
Troy: Me
Gab: Neither
Troy: When we met, I thought you said you were going to camp Splout Rake!
Gab: And I thought you said you were going to Camp Lout Sprake!
Troy: What a coincidence that we ended up here, of all places! It’s bershert!
Scene 3: Elective Fair
Ethan Holland (to the tune of All Star)
Somebody once told me you wanted to play games, but first learn some strategy
Hey now, you should sign up for
Strat-eg-y games
It is the best el-ec-tive in camp
It is so much fun, so sign up
To-dayyy and play with me.
Troy: catch me there!
Omanut Specialist: Sign up for Omanut if you like waiting on the hill, making buttons, keeping your area
clean, having a burning desire to see a storage room, drowning the camp in lanyards, and constantly being
covered in glitter!
Gabriella: Gnarly dude!!
Jordan: Hi guys! I’m Jordan! You should join the musical elective! (Make intense eye contact with
audience--> dolphin noise, and walk off)
Symay: (signs name very big)
Troy and Gab: sounds great!
Troy: but my friends want me in strategy games
Gab: my friends usually do omanut electives. Maybe we can put musical as our fourth choice!
Troy: sounds good

Scene 4: Bop to The Top

Jordan: Welcome to Sprout Lake the Musical
Symay: Welcome to sprout lake the musical
(jordan gives side eye, Symay fixes hair)
Troy: wait you’re in this elective too?
Gabriella: yeah it sounded really cool in the elective fair!
Symay pushes her away: I’m in this elective too, Five years running (flips hair)
Jordan: let’s learn our first MUSICAL NUMBER!

Al Habama
Marinara
I love tortellini
(dolpin noise)
Yallah yallah
Rotzim lirkod?
Az Bo’ee
I believe in dancing
Singing like a star
Working hard and having fun
Talented? Yes we are!
Singing and a dancing
Acting out my best
Anything it takes to get to
The end goal of success
Use our ruach everyday
Gotta know the stage directions
Blow the crowd away
Chamli chamli
Sababa
Yeah we're gonna
Sing, sing, sing, sing, dance and act
Slip and slide and ride that rhythm
Shake and pop
Hop ‘til we drop
And start again
Zip zap zop, flop like a mop
Scoot around the corner
Move it to the groove
Until the music stops
Al Habama!

Jordan: so let’s start brainstorming ideas, what should the musical be about?

Brooke: Oh i have an idea! What if we make a musical about us making a musical about us making a
musical.... (keeps saying it as people leave the stage)
Scene 5:

*Kids hurry in for chicken lunch, veggie burgers*

(Split stage at the arch as troy and gab talk about their electives) One side is Troy and his friends and
Gab and her friends are on the other side.

Chad: (to troy) what electives do you have?

Troy: Strategy games, archery, and musical

Taylor: (to Gab): Hey Gabriella, what are your electives?

Gab: jewelry, ceramics, and musical.

*collectively shouts* MUUUUSSSSICAL?

GAB/TROY: Why not?

Chad: You should’ve signed up for basketball, you always play it at home! The team needs you.

Taylor: Why’d you do that? Shouldn’t you be at woodworking? Don’t you like wearing those science
goggles?

TROY: Well... This isn’t home.. Shouldn’t I try something new?

Stick to the Status Quo

[Martha Cox:]

Look at me and what do you see

Athletic, it’s beyond compare

But inside I am stirring, something strange is occurring

It's a secret I need to share

[Swimmers]

Open up, dig way down deep

[Martha Cox (spoken):]

Cooking is my passion! I love to grill, kneed, saute and bake!

[Swimmer (spoken):]

Is that even kosher?

[Swimmers:]

Not another peep

[Martha (spoken):]

It's just cooking. Sometimes I get more of a thrill than when I swim.

[Chorus 2: Swimmers]

No, no, no, nooooooooooo

No, no, no

Stick to the stuff you know

It is better by far to keep things as they are

Don't mess with the flow, no no

Stick to the status quo

Scene 6:

Chad: Troy, come play magic with me.

Troy: I’m a little busy...

Chad: Doing what?

Troy: Practicing for musical.

Chad: Troy, you should be playing magic. You’re our best player.

Troy: I know... but...

Chad: But, NOTHING! COME ON! YOU’RE GOING TO THE PORCH OF THE CHADAR. We’re not
losing you to this musical thing.

Troy: You’re right I’m not a music man, I’m a magic man!

GET YA HEAD IN THE GAME

Ethan said to untap and draw

Cast a creature and go to attack
Gotta trade for what you need, put your card in a sleeve
But don't be afraid to mulligan that hand

[Pre-Chorus 1:]
Uh, just play your cards in the game
Uh, just play your cards in the game
And don't be afraid to play the cards all day
Uh, just play your cards in the game

[Chorus:]
You gotta get'cha, get'cha head in the game
We gotta get-a, get-a, get-a, get ahead in the game
You gotta get'cha, get'cha head in the game
We gotta get-a, get-a, get-a, get ahead in the game
SCENE 7: (Omanut)

Omanut Counsellor: Gabriella, can you grab the brushes for the table?

Gab: I can’t find the paint brushes...

A needle pricked me, when I didn’t see

Eden walking there beside me

Was sitting alone, ceramics to mold

I’m lacking something right in front of me

Butcher paper’s like no other

Where did the brushes go?

I’ve never really known where anything here is

Come help the kids

Pens, scissors, glitter, tape, can’t even find the glue

Hey where are you?

Can’t find anything, Yifat can you bring, what I've been looking for

Oomanutt, Ooomanut is da best (x2)

Scene 8 (Porch of Chadar):

Gab: Troy, I think we should switch out of musical.

Troy: I agree, but why do you want to switch out?

Gab: My friends are mad at me for being in musical, none of them signed up for it.

Troy: Yeah, my friends think I should be in a sport instead...

Gab: Oh! I see Emily and Rayna, I guess we should just ask them if we can switch.

(Gab and Troy approach the merekzim)

Rayna: Hey guys! What’s up?

Troy: We want to switch out of musical.

Emily: Why? What would you want to switch into?

Gab: I’m not sure. I just don’t feel like I’m the type to be in Al Habama, it’s never been my thing

Emily: We’ll look into it

Rayna: Yes, most electives are full. But if it’s something you really can’t see yourself doing, we’ll try our
hardest to make the best fit for you.

Emily: are you both sure Musical isn’t the right fit.

(look at each other)

Both: yes.

Go My Own Way
I've got to move on and be who I am
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand
We might find our place in this camp someday
But at least for now
I gotta do my own thing
(Walk off stage awkwardly and dramatically)
Scene 9:

(Troy and Gab stand on side talking to friends before ba kalil)

Taylor: Gabriella, rikkud is totally boring.

Gab: Nah man! It’s totally rad.
*other side of stage*

Chad: Rikkud is trash, the basketball court is for basketball, not rikkud.
Troy: I guess that’s a fair point.

Gab/Troy: BA KALIL!!
(Runs to center stage and dance ba kalil together)

BREAKING FREE
You know our friends can see us
In a way that’s different than who we are
But it is time to free us
Let us be who we are
It is time for us to shine
Shine like a star
Let me be me
We’re singing, dancing
Al Habama is the place we’re meant to be
And if we try hard
We can do it all

Both: We can do both!

Troy: I can play magic!
Gab: I can still do Omanut!
Both: While still being a contributing member of Al Habama!

BREAKOUT - ukulele, guitar, mandolin

Troy: Gabriella, I can’t believe we let our friends get the best of us.
Gabriella: I know! I think we should stay in musical.

(Chad & Taylor eavesdrop)

Chad: I’m so sorry Troy, I should have never messed with your time here at camp.
Taylor: I agree. Gabriella, it was wrong of me to try to get between you and your music man.
Chad: We’re gonna help you guys with anything you want to do Al Habama related, even if it’s not what
we like to do.
Taylor: yes definitely! We’re signing up for Macabbiah activities now, let us help you do whichever
activity you want!
Troy: Okay, so here’s the plan. ( whisper in a huddle)
Scene 10:

(Do their respective activities quickly and come together for MAC dance)

(cheer them on, support them in Magic/plaque)

(TROY & GAB get together for the dance)

Mac dance: We’re all in this together

[Intro: All]
Together, together, together everyone
Together, together, come on, let's have some fun
Together, we're there for each other every time
Together, together come on, let's do this right

[Verse 1: Troy & Gabriella]

Here and now, it's time for celebration
I finally figured out (yeah yeah)
That all our dreams have no limitations
That's what it's all about (come on now)
Everyone is special in their own way
We make each other strong (each other strong)
We're not the same
We're different in a good way
Together's where we belong

[Chorus 1: All]
We're all in this together
Once we know, that we are
We're all stars
And we see that
We're all in this together
And it shows, when we stand
Hand in hand
Make our dreams come true
