1.  Union Ministry of Tourism (Union minister


of tourism: KJ Alphons) has inaugurated
India’s first tribal circuit project connecting
13 tourism sites in Chhattisgarh under
Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

2. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs


(CCEA) has approved 100% electrification
of broad gauge routes of Indian Railways (IR) by 2021-22.
3.  Capacity Development Scheme of the Ministry of Statistics and
Program Implementation has been continued for period 2017-18 to
2019-20 by CCEA.

4. Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced that all contributions to


home ministry’s ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ fund have been exempted from the
income tax under 80(G).

"Bharat ke  Veer" is the brainchild of Akshay Kumar and Pulela


Gopichand and has received a trust status. It has been formed with
seven trustees headed by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

5. Union Cabinet approved new umbrella scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri


Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan, PM-AASHA. additional government
guarantee of Rs.16,550 crore has been provided making the umbrella
scheme Rs. 45,550 crore in total.

The new Umbrella Scheme comprises of:

i. Price Support Scheme (PSS),

ii. Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS) and

iii. Pilot of Private Procurement and Stockist Scheme (PPPS).

6. Delhi Government led by Aam Admi Party has launched scheme for
doorstep delivery of 40 essential government services like caste and
marriage certificate etc.

1. RBI announced amendments to Reserve


Bank of India (Note Refund) Rules, 2009

According to the latest changes:

i. Value of the mutilated note of less than 50


rupees denomination will be refunded in full if
the undivided area is of the range 31- 47%
of the note.

ii. Value of the mutilated note greater than equals to 50 rupees


denomination would have to either be refunded in:

a. Half if the undivided area of a single largest piece is 40% (round off) and

b. Full if the undivided area of a single largest piece is 80% (round off).

2. The government appointed former Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal


Jalan to head a panel to select the next Chief Economic Adviser in
the finance ministry.
3. Union Finance Ministry has doubled monetary limit to Rs. 20 lakhs
from Rs.10 lakh for filing loan recovery application in Debt
Recovery Tribunals (DRT).

4. India  Post Payments Bank has tied up with Financial Software


and Systems (FSS) for providing banking solutions to the unorganized
sector especially rural households, small and medium enterprises and
women.

5. Life Insurance Corporation of India signed an agreement with


Central Depository Services (India) to provide group insurance
coverage to all eligible DEMAT account holders. The facility will be
available to DEMAT account holders between the age of 18 years and 59
years.

6.  YES Bank announced that it had raised $400 million (Rs. 2,900
crores) via syndicated loan facility, from it’s IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) in
Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City.

7. IRDAI announced the guidelines for ‘Sandbox’ method to enable


testing of new innovative insurance products. It was announced 11th
Global Insurance Summit, organized by ASSOCHAM  in Mumbai. 

8. Union Cabinet has approved MoU signed between EXIM Bank and
member banks under BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism on
collaborative Research on Distributed Ledger and Blockchain Technology. 

9. Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has made it mandatory


for unlisted public companies to issue new shares or transfer of all
shares in dematerialized or DEMAT (i.e. in electronic form) form
beginning October 2, 2018. 

1.  Singapore-based global investment firm


Temasek has signed agreement to invest
up to Rs 2,750 crore ($400 million) in the
National Investment and Infrastructure
Fund (NIIF’s) Master Fund.

2. Andhra Pradesh entered into a MoU with


Mastercard and launched a mobile
platform, e-Rythu (e-farmer in Telugu)
enabling small-scale farmers to market their produce at reasonable prices.

3.  General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re), a Government-owned


reinsurance company, has secured a 10th position among the top
40 global reinsurers, as per a recent ranking published by Standard and
Poors.

4. Infosys has signed a 3-year partnership with the Australian Open


as its official digital innovation partner.

5.  Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) inked a partnership with


Unlimit, the only end-to-end IoT service provider in India for the Internet of
Things (IoT) solutions.

6.  NITI Aayog, Intel, and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research


(TIFR) are collaborating to set up Model International Center for
Transformative Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI) in Bengaluru. 

1.  Rajalakshmi Nandakumar, an India-born


woman scholar in the US, has been chosen for
a prestigious award for her work to help
detect potentially life-threatening health
issues using smartphones.

2.  Jaipur-based poet and writer Sawai Singh


Shekhawat will be honored with Meera
Puruskar by Rajasthan Sahitya Academy for his
contribution to Hindi literature.

3. 39th ‘Sarala Puraskar’ award to be given to Odia poet Satrughna


Pandav for his poetry collection ‘Misra Dhrupad’.

4.  Popular children’s writer Ramendra Kumar was honored at the


36th International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Congress
in Athens, Greece.

5.  Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, is set to


become the first airport in Asia to introduce face recognition-based
passage system. To implement this system the airport has signed an
agreement with a Portugal based firm Vision Box.

6. Manoj Jhalani, Additional Secretary & Mission Director (National Health


Mission), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has been conferred the
UN Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) award for his contribution
towards prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and
associated Sustainable Development Goals.

7.  Aishwarya Rai, Janhvi Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar were honored at the first
Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Awards in Washington, US.
Aishwarya Rai was presented the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for
Excellence. Director Zoya Akhtar was handed the Wyler Award for
Excellence in Direction. Actress Janhvi Kapoor was presented the
WIFT Emerald Award.

8. Asian Development Bank released its 2018 Flagship Statistical


Report for Asia and the Pacific. This report provides the latest available
economic, financial, social, SDG indicators and environmental statistics for
the 48 regional members of ADB. This year’s report is focusing on:
Technological Innovation for Agricultural Statistics.

Asia and the Pacific region continues to grow in GDP and labor force has
been reduced and is shifting from agriculture towards employment in
industry and services.

Around 780million people from the region moved out of extreme poverty
from 2002 to 2013,

9. Terre des Hommes, an international children rights charity based


in Switzerland is awarded the 2018 Balzan Prize for Humanity, Peace
and Fraternity among Peoples.

10.  Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime


Minister, was conferred ‘Honoris Causa’ by the University of
Engineering & Management (UEM) in Kolkata.

1.  A two-day India-UAE Partnership Summit


(IUPS) will be held in Dubai from October 30.

2.  4th Annual Sustainable Smart Cities


India Conference was inaugurated by A.B.
Ibrahim, IAS, Mission Director, Smart City
Mission, in Bengaluru.

3. G-20 Education Ministers’ Meeting, as well as Joint Ministerial Meeting,


held at Mendoza, Argentina on 5th & 6th September 2018. MoS Dr. Satya
Pal Singh represented India. Similarly, G-20 laborers meet was attended
by Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated MOVE: India’s ever first


Global Mobility Summit organized by NITI Aayog at Vigyan Bhawan in
New Delhi.

The summit focused on five themes: electrification, alternative fuels,


reinventing public transport, goods transport, and logistics through data
analytics.

iii. The focus would be given on ‘Clean Kilometres’ and he declared the 7Cs
of future mobility. They are Common, Connected, Convenient,
Congestion-free, Charged, Clean and Cutting-edge.
5.  Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 6th International Geriatric
Orthopaedic Society of India Conference at the AIIMS, New Delhi.

Theme: “Increased Longevity with Reduced Fragility and Enhanced


Mobility”.

6.  The World Summit on Accreditation (WOSA-2018) was recently


inaugurated by Prakash Javdekar in New Delhi. It was organized by
National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the theme was “Challenges and
Opportunities in Outcome-Based Accreditation”.

7.    “Yudh Abhyas”- annual combat exercise between India and the
US is being held at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand.

8. 4th Eastern Economic Forum was held in Vladivostok, Russia.

9.  Regional Conference on Good Governance with Focus on


Aspirational Districts was held in Bhopal, capital of Madhya Pradesh.

10. Nomadic Elephant 2018 joint exercise by India and Mongolia is


being organized in Ulaanbaatar (capital of Mongolia, Currency:
Togrog)

11.  To commemorate 125 years of Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago


speech on September 11, 1893, World Hindu Congress (WHC-2018)
was recently held in Chicago, United States.

Theme: of WHC-2018 was “Sumantrite Suvikrante” — think collectively,


achieve valiantly”. 

12. Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully carried out first ever mid-air
refueling of indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)
Tejas MK-1 over Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The fuel was transferred from
IAF’s Russian-origin Ilyushin-78 (IL-78) tanker.

13.  MILEX-19, the first field training military exercise of the Bay of
Bengal initiative for multi-sectoral technical and economic cooperation
(BIMSTEC) commenced in Pune, Maharashtra. Nepal and Thailand
are not the part of this exercise. 

14.  ASEAN World Economic Forum commenced in Hanoi, Vietnam.


Theme: “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

15.  India, Iran and Afghanistan held their first tripartite meeting
chaired by Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai in Kabul.

16. August 14: Hindi Diwas: August 14

Under the Article 343 of Indian Constitution, Hindi written in


Devanagari script was adopted as the official language under the
article 343 of the constitution. Presently Hindi and English both are official
Languages.

Theme: “literacy and skill development.”

19. Festival of Harvest Nuakhai was celebrated in western Odisha


on September 14, 2018. 

1. The Archaeological Survey of India has


discovered a hoard of 254 Copper Coins in
the premises of Khirki Mosque, Delhi during
the course of conservation of the monument.

2.  Implementing its announcement in the last


year’s budget the Union Ministry of
Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has
launched Dairy Processing & Infrastructure Development Fund
(DIDF) Scheme with an outlay of Rs. Rs. 10881 crores. The first
installment of Rs. 440 crores was given to National Dairy Development
Board (NDDB).

3. Lucknow Municipal Corporation decided to rename the


Hazratganj Chauraha, as ‘Atal Chowk’ after former Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee.

4. Union Ministry for Minority Affairs has launched the country’s


first National Scholarship Portal Mobile App (NSP Mobile App). 

5. To reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to urban


transport, India and France have signed implementation agreement
on Mobilise Your City (MYC) to support three pilot cities – Nagpur, Kochi, and
Ahmedabad.

Both the countries have also collaborated for ISRO’s first human space
mission “Gaganyaan” to be launched in 2022.

6. Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Indo-


Bhutan Border Centre at Darranga in Assam’s Baksa district.

7. Snow leopard was spotted in Lippa-Asra wildlife sanctuary in


Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

8. Haryana Government has signed Memorandum of Understanding


(MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to set up an ethanol plant at
village Bohali village in Panipat district with an outlay of over Rs. 900 crores.

9. Union Ministry of Railways has launched Rail Sahyog web portal to


provide a platform for Corporates and PSUs to fund the improvement of
amenities at the railway stations through the CSR Funds.

10.  Sadarmatt Anicut and Pedda Cheruvu irrigation tank of


Telangana is the first from India to secure a place in the register of
World Heritage Irrigation Structures (WHIS) maintained by
International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID)

11. National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), the first of its
kind university on the transport sector in India, has started
functioning in the Vadodara, Gujarat.

12. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu dedicated


Arunachal Pradesh’s first Sainik School at Niglok in East Siang district
to the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

13. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar flagged off the first bus service
between Bihar and Nepal.

14. Samsung has opened the world’s largest mobile experience center
at Opera House, Bengaluru. The experiences offered include virtual
reality (VR), artificial intelligence and Internet of Things.

15. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay (Maharashtra)


has recommissioned India’s oldest nuclear research reactor named
‘Apsara’. The new version has been named as ‘Apsara-upgraded’ (Apsara-
U). Originally it had become operational in Trombay campus in August 1956
and then was the first nuclear research reactor in Asia.

16. Preeti Shenoy announced the launch of her new book named
“The Rule Breakers”.

17. Marbat festival was celebrated in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It


comprises burning of effigies that represent evil forces called ‘Marbats’ of
Kali (black) and Pivli (Yellow). 

1.  UN postal agency will issue special


stamps here next month to commemorate
the festival of Diwali.

2. US has granted India the Strategic Trade


Authorisation (STA-1) status. The status
places India in the inner circle of America’s
closest allies.
3.  NASA’s Focusing Optics X-ray Solar Imager, or FOXSI took its third
flight from the White Sands Missile Range in White Sands, New Mexico.

4. India has decided to participate in the Programme for


International Student Assessment (PISA) after a gap of 9 years
organized by OECD once in every 3 years.

5. President Kovind visited Czech Republic (Capital: Prague, Currency:


Koruna) on the final leg of his state visit to three European nations – Cyprus
(Capital: Nicosia, Currency: Euro), Bulgaria (Capital: Sofia, Currency: Lev)
and the Czech Republic.

6.  Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Telecommunications Consultants


India Ltd (TCIL) have signed an agreement to implement-
VidyaBharati and e-AarogyaBharati (e-VBAB) Network Project in
Africa.

World Championships were held at Duna
Arena, in Budapest, Hungary (currency:

2.  Novak Djokovic from Serbia (Capital:


Belgrade, Currency: Dinar) won 2018 US
Open title of tennis in men’s singles category
by defeating Argentina’s Juan Martín del Potro. Japan’s Naomi Osaka won
in the women’s category by defeating Serena Williams of US.

3. Hima Das was appointed as Sports Ambassador of Assam.

4. India Blue defeated India Red to lift the 2017-18 Duleep Trophy.

5. India’s oldest female athlete Man Kaur has won a gold medal at
the World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain.

6.  Justice Mukul Mudgal was named Chairman of 11-member


selection committee to pick this year’s Dronacharya and Dhyanchand
awardees.

1.  Freedom fighter Goura Chandra


Mohapatra passed away recently in Odisha.

2. Mumbai-based artist Mehlli Gobhai passed


away following a short-term illness.

3.  Padma Bhushan awardee and


agricultural economist Vijay Shankar Vyas died following a short-term
illness, in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

4. Dr. Rita Jitendra (Former Kashmiri Professor) passed away due to cardiac


arrest in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
