Bromance – An Oxford Dictionary Inclusion

To all the men out there! Have you ever found yourself without words trying to explain the extremely close friendship that you have with another man? Of course you have! Well look no further. Bromance, defined as: a close but non-sexual relationship between two men, has now been included in the world renowned Oxford Dictionary. Popularized by the womanizing character Barney Stinson played by Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) on the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Bromance is now an official word. It still amazes me that Doogie Howser has transcended his former role, and become such a cultural icon. Among other things, NPH has made phrases like, “Legend… wait for it… Dary!”, “Suit Up” and, “I’m Awesome”, not only popular, but part of daily conversation. Barney Stinson, you are Legend... - Well you know the rest. Other words added to the 2011 Oxford Dictionary include: Buzzkill: a person or thing that has a depressing or dispiriting effect Cheeseball: lacking taste, style or originality Chillax: calm down and relax Frenemy: a person with whom one is friendly despite a fundamental dislike or rivalry

Oh What a Time - The 1990’s

It’s All Relative

It seems hard to imagine, but there was a time when iPods, Nintendo Wii, and even High School Musical did not exist. Shocking, I know! Yes this was the golden age of the 90’s, and boy was it a time to be alive. Beverly Hills 90210 (the original series) hit television screens on Oct. 4, 1990. The leading man: Canada’s own Jason Priestley.

I bet you owned a pager at some point. For those of you unfamiliar, the pager was a little electronic text receiving device, basically only delivering a phone number. They outnumbered cellphones by 3:1. Remember the Sega Dreamcast? Well, likely you don’t – Google it. Speaking of 90’s inventions, yes even Google was a product of that era, founded in 1996 as a research project by 2 PHD students. Auctioning took on a whole new look with the introduction of eBay. Originally called AuctionWeb, then EchoBay, and now of course eBay, the site sold it’s first product in 1995, a broken laser pointer for $14.83 to a collector of broken laser pointers. Remember Y2K? Of course you do. And if not, ask your parents. Read the full 1990’s review online, and add some personal favorites of your own at goodnewsweekly.ca. Religious Chicken During a Papal audience, a businessman approached the Pope and made the following offer: Change the last line of the Lord's prayer from "give us this day our daily bread" to "give us this day our daily chicken." and KFC will donate 10 million dollars to Catholic charities. The Pope declined. 2 weeks later the man approached the Pope again. This time with a 50 million dollar offer. Again the Pope declined.

Community Opinion
This week we asked: “Crazy, fun, and wild! We want to hear about your most adrenaline packed activity!?”

Dean Writes... I went bungee jumping in New Zealand. The Nevis! 450 Feet up and an 8 second freefall! It was amazing and scary! Tarra Writes... One time I raced down a ski run so fast, that when I got to the bottom, and didn’t break properly, I hit the lift line guardrail and did a complete 360 flip in the air over it! Amazingly I was okay!

Anonymous Writes... I did a whitewater rafting tour in Golden, BC. It was a 3 day overnighter, and we got caught in a rain storm, which made the water surge even harder. We almost got caught under one of the rapids, but our guide managed to pull us out just in time. It was the most adrenaline packed experience of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

With over 150 Locations in Yaletown, Downtown, & UBC Is it any wonder Good News Weekly is the talk of the town?
