THIRD SEMINAR REPORT

PHOTOCONTROL OF ANION BINDING AFFINITY TO A BIS

UREA RECEPTOR DERIVED FROM STIFF-STILLBENE.
Vaibhav Pal (MS15051)

In this talk we have learnt about how we can make/synthesize any photoresponsive anion
receptors and what sort of group can be present in that type of receptor. How we can tune the
binding affinity of this receptor. For demonstratng this we have seen the synthesis of the stiff-
stilbene-based bis-urea receptor.Due to their rigid core structure of bis-urea receptor and the veyry
good change in geomety upon isomerization, good binding selectivities and large differences in the
binding properties between the photoaddressable states are expected in this receptor. This receptor
selectively binds CH3CO2--and H2PO4--the affinity is controlled successfully via photoinduced E/Z
isomerization using 365/385 nm light. This type of compounds can play a very good role or used as
a gate in the dynamic regulation of membrane transport.
