Editor's note
We are dandelions waiting for the wind
to disintegrate us into thousand tiny
wishes and conquer the world. We all
breathe in wishes and exhale out dreams
while we gleefully float through time in
the ballet routine of our mundane lives.
Little do we consider the value of
change; let alone the momentum, the
flow of possibilities and opportunities
that intertwine to twist and turn our
lives like candy floss. 

It brings me immense pride and pleasure

to present to you, dear reader, the first
issue of the Infosys Toastmasters, Mysore
Club Newsletter - Kaizen. 'Kaizen' is the
Japanese word for 'improvement'. It is
deeply associated with the flow and
momentum occurring during this 
improvement. This club has seen the
darkest and brightest of days; but what
has stayed constant is the want and
need for improvement. 

Kaizen can be 'Flow kaizen' that focuses

on the flow of information or 'Process
kaizen' that reflects on the
reorganization of an entity. This club
implements and experiences both. The
same has been channelized throughout
this newsletter, be it the articles, the

chief editor testimonials, the message from various

leaders, or the adventures of
Toastmasters real-time. The wavy lines at
the top are a symbol for both aspects of

toastmaster 'Kaizen' as it is the flow of information

that triggers the process of rejuvenation

the waiting, we all are no less than
dragons. From my experience in
Toastmasters so far, dragons do exist. All
they need is a dragon-keeper to believe
in them; to stimulate their 'Kaizen'.

About US
Infosys Toastmasters, Mysore was
started on February 14, 2008. Over
the past 10 years the club has
served as a journey for many of it's
members; some of whom have
even reached the Distinguished
Toastmaster award.

Apart from being a facilitator of

learning, our club has also been a
junction for people with broken
dreams, insecurities, and all the
dark shades of existence to take a
pause, take a fresh breath of life,
and start afresh to conquer all
their problems.

Here, every person is accepted

irrespective of what they are, how
they are and who they are.

From providing members the cocoon to
confide in to making them courageous
enough to fly, I've seen leaders of this
club put in all their efforts to make this
club attain glory.
  
It has been a privilege to take up a
leadership position in a club having such
legacy.

The club is full of new faces today and I

feel proud to say that I see so much of
potential, courage and enthusiasm in all
of them. Whatever the club has achieved
so far has been possible because of the
dedication of every member.

To all the budding toastmasters out

there, this is a place where we come to
learn and depart to serve. Don't be afraid
to fail, but make sure you learn.

Being a toastmaster will change your

Dear Toastmasters of Infosys Toastmasters, Mysore,
,
This club in Infosys Mysore is very close to my
heart! Do you know why? Because I did my CC8 in
this very place way back in 2003. Infosys
Toastmasters, Mysore is the first club that was
started outside Infosys Toastmasters, Bangalore
and I have very fond memories of this club.
Therefore, last year when I heard that this club
was struggling for survival, I was dismayed, sad
and then decided to do whatever was possible in
a small way to help revive the club.
The Div. F Director Sagnik and Club President
Swagat chose to focus on the basics and
requested for an education session to which I
immediately agreed. Thus, last October I was there
at your club to deliver a session on “How to
leverage Toastmasters for professional success”,
which is perhaps the foremost reason for us to join
Toastmasters. Little did I expect the hall to be half
full…and I was pleasantly surprised to see the hall
jam packed with 100's of Infoscions. The success of
the session was evident in the fact that several
attendees lining up to join the club. Within 3
months, the club had turnaround and not only
survived but is now thriving.

The success of this club made me firm up that my

role as a PQD will be to create an environment

distinguished
where every member builds strong
communication skills, takes up leadership roles
and thereby earn professional success. As a leader,

toastmaster
my experience is that leadership is all about
leading yourself and leading people. Simon Sinek
the leadership evangelist- says “You don't lead

organizations. you lead people”. One of the
Leadership lessons I have learned from Larry
Bossidy and Ram Charan, who said and I quote “If
you spend the same amount of time and energy
in developing people as you would on budgeting,
strategic planning and financial monitoring, the
payoff will come in sustainable competitive
advantage”.

Hence, I have always wanted to support Infosys

Toastmasters Mysore and will continue doing so in
the future. I truly wish that the leaders of this club
coach their members and help them become
leaders of tomorrow, and when we have done
that, we will have a pool of leaders in our district.
Here's wishing each one of you all the best in your
journey of Toastmasters. Thank you.

Infoscions have proved time and again
that excellence is the gradual result of
always trying to do better. Never lagging
behind in the quest of excellence, the
young guns of Infosys have shown what
they are capable of by achieving 6 DCP
points in less than 3 months. Infosys
Toastmasters Mysore now stands as the
torch bearer of excellence in Mysore Area.

We have to note that it was not always a

smooth ride for Infoscions. The club had its
down time a year ago but they rose up like
phoenix. They were able to do so because
they reached out to fellow Toastmasters.
They were eager to learn, they were eager
to grow and they were eager to achieve
excellence. This eagerness made them
reach to fellow Toastmasters and then
everything changed. New initiatives,
mentor programs and PR activities have
been the highlight of the Infosys
Toastmasters Mysore over the past 3
months and I have seen them give highest
importance to quality.

Infosys Toastmasters, Mysore have

impressed everyone with their stellar
performance. I congratulate all the
members for achieving 6 DCP points and
wish everyone all the best for the year
ahead. I also like to thank all the member
for the services you rendered for the cause
of Toastmasters movement in Mysore.

Story-teller

If story-tellers were real dragons; then she
would be one of the most fearsome of
them all. She is a M. Phil in English
Literature (St. Xavier's, Kolkata), Gold
Medalist (University of Kolkata) and has
spread her wings wide over time; be it
being an Associate Professor in top B-
Schools, an Alumnus for the 'Teach For
India' initiative or a volunteer for the 'Jagriti
Yatra' entrepreneur program,e for young
women.

She is the perfect metaphor for the

convergence of experiential learning and
implementation via story-telling; as a
Toastmaster, she has achieved the coveted
title of 'Distinguished Toastmaster' in a
record time of 2.5 years and continues to
add silver linings of success to her wings.

Named 'Linkedin Top Voice 2017'; she is a

dragon of story-telling who breathes her
magical fire into the scary realms of public-
speaking, personal branding, social media
branding and more; only to have us burn
our inhibitions away and from the ashes
and embers, and rise like a phoenix and re-
write our story. In this edition of

How would you define
your job?
Awesome-sauce storyteller – on video
and off it! I am currently the founder of
my YouTube channel – ‘AskAnnie’ – the
host of the entrepreneur podcast
featured on it and a freelance corporate
trainer, specialising in the niche area of
business storytelling. I love writing
blogs and features as a Linkedin
influencer. Public speaking and
delivering talks on entrepreneurship,
storytelling, the power of social media
and personal branding add to my day.
Juggling multiple things while trying to
maintain a smile – that’s my job.
How much of it is driven
by story-telling and how?
"Great stories happen to those who can
tell them." -Ira Glas
I am a bookworm – a proud queen of
the nerds. Stories have shaped me
since childhood and the ability to
express it forms most of my work.
Writing involves storytelling, so does
training, and for public speaking. If I
didn’t know how to channel my
thoughts and ideas into the format of a
story, there would neither be fun nor
creativity in what I do.  than facts, data and logic. It doesn’t
I am equally passionate about helping
others’ shape and tell their stories. As
an introvert, I have spent most of my
teenage and adult life feeling left out
of the crowd; Toastmasters helped me
overcome this shyness and I want to
give back by enabling students,
individuals and companies tell their
stories better. We are living in a world
where digital media is constantly
throwing words and images at us.

It is important to know how to break
that white noise and get heard
authentically.
How much of it is driven
by story-telling and how?
Why do you love ‘Harry Potter’? Why are
you hooked to ‘Game of Thrones’? Why
do we queue up to buy the latest
iPhones (even if we have to sell a
kidney or two for it)?
Humans are hardwired genetically to
listen to stories. Since the Stone Ages,
humans sat around a fire and listened
to stories or told them – that is how
knowledge and values were shared.
This is why storytelling works. It
creates a flow – paints pictures –
invests emotion – helps you identify
with a character and thus creates your
buy-in, even though you don’t realize
it.
We see ourselves in a Harry/ Ginny/
Ron/ Jon Snow/ Daenarys/ Tyrion entity.
That’s why we are impatient to see
what happens to them; the magic lies
in the emotional and imaginative
investment. Stories make us see and
imagine and believe much more deeply
feel like work to listen to a story.
As for the iPhone, we buy it to become
part of a story; the iconic story of the
rebel Steve Jobs and the way he
disrupted everything. It matches our
alter–ego fascination; if we own an
iPhone, we are cool and rebellious and
hip. That’s our story. That’s our
identity.

Any life-changing
experiences that was
caused by story-telling?
“In October 2012, on my way home from
school, a masked gunman boarded my
school bus. He shot me on the left side
of my head.
I woke up 10 days later in a hospital in
Birmingham, England. The doctors and
nurses told me about the attack and
that people around the world were
praying for my recovery.
After months of surgeries and
rehabilitation, I joined my family in our
new home in the U.K.
It was then I knew I had a choice: I
could live a quiet life or I could make
the most of this new life I had been
given. I determined to continue my
fight until every girl could go to school.
With my father, who has always been
my ally and inspiration, I established a
fund, a charity dedicated to giving
every girl an opportunity to achieve a
future she chooses. In recognition of
our work, I received the Nobel Peace
Prize in December 2014 and became
the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. “
This is Malala’s story. This is how
storytelling can change lives. Just by
the brave act of going on BBC at the
age of 11 and sharing the stories of girls
being denied education in Afghanistan,
she encountered the wrath of the
Taliban and almost died. Yet she did
not give up or give in. Her story inspires
me and millions of people to believe in
the power of education and free
speech.

How do you implement
Toastmasters real-time?
How has it helped in
becoming a story-teller?
Toastmasters is my sounding board, my
practice pool, my home stadium. All my
creative experiments happen in TM
meetings and sessions: the continuous
feedback and mentoring I receive helps
me ‘sharpen the axe’.
All my projects; from CC1 to my contest
speeches to education sessions; they
required me to think, draft, edit,
rehearse and present stories within a
limited amount of time. Added to it,
the choice of language; body language
and voice modulation; no other
platform can provide you this ’10,000
hour’ practice format to become an ace
storyteller. 
What is your driving
force?  
The ability to make a positive change in
the world. I love Lilly Singh’s YouTube
series: ‘Superwoman’; so much humour
from just one tiny room, she has
changed the world in 6 years. She is
currently a UN ambassador for
education and her movement
"#GirlLove" has impacted millions.
Another amazing person is Gary
Vaynerchuk, a serial entrepreneur who
records his daily meetings and life to
motivate people to hustle and create a
better life. These influencers started off
with no expectations but to tell good
stories and see how much they have
changed.

Have you ever thought about where do
unsaid, unexpressed and unattended
thoughts go? Do they find some space
in you to settle down or roam around to
come out of you?
      As per a source in Psychology
Today, an average brain has around
25000-50000 thoughts a day and 70
percent of them are negative. Once a
thought takes birth in you, it becomes a
part of who you are. If we consider from
the time that we are born, we would
have millions of terabytes of data sets
of thoughts available to us. Are our
human brains capable of holding on to
this huge data stream of thoughts?.
Every time you see a breathtaking view
of this world's beautiful painting,
nature; the emotions of joy, serenity,
ecstasy start living within you. The
anger that you experience when you see
the person who wronged you, the
butterflies that you feel in your
stomach when you see your love near
you, the fear that daunts your nerves
just before starting that adventure.

       All these take birth in you and
continue to be part of you without your
consent. Once they internalize in you,
few change your perspective, a few
affect your body functioning, a few can
lead to even more thoughts. Just like
the way, positive and enchanting
thoughts make you happier and
healthier, negative and limiting ones
can break you down into pieces.
As the processor performance gets
reduced with the overflow data, our
brain function faces a downward curve
as it gets clogged with the thoughts
unexpressed. Express, with the limitless
abilities in infinite forms. Run, the
algorithms needed to derive a
conclusion out of scattered thoughts.
The moment you express it out in any of
the infinite forms like music, writing,
speech, your heart starts getting lighter
and your mind gets even clearer
thoughts to express.

It was 11th October, 2017 when I
received a mail from Infosys
Toastmasters, Mysore which said
"Experience the art of public speaking".
I was entangled in the thoughts of
whether to attend or not to attend but
as I wanted to indulge myself with
something that adds value to my life, I
attended my first meeting of
Toastmasters; and I was astonished ,
astonished by the fact that people like
DTM Raj Kumar Bansal (Infosys-AVS
Group Leader), Gaurab Mukkhopadyay
(Senior Member -ETA) were also
present. They portrayed their thoughts
in such a way that I actually felt myself
being immersed in a different
dimension, All this while I had always
listened to such spoken word on
channels and the Internet but seeing
something so close, and experiencing it
in reality gave me goosebumps; it laid
the seeds of oratory in me.
I got to know further that both of the
speakers were veteran Toastmasters
and that they too started their journey
as a "Speaker" from Toastmasters.
Knowing all these facts, it was hard for
me to give an excuse to  myself to not
join the club.

Moreover the environment reflected by
the meeting was so positive and
energetic that even a person like me
who held himself back those days for
not going on stage, was carried to the
stage during the Table Topics session.
How was it positive? Clearly from the
fact that people applauded for all
individual who represented themselves
on the stage, and even if someone was
not so good or was a budding speaker,
every Toastmaster appreciated their
efforts after the meeting was over. All
this can happen only if there exists a
motive in every individual to be a good
orator one day.
I was so moved by the meeting that I
can go on writing pages after pages of
how good I felt that day.
Thank you Toastmaster Infosys, Mysore
for such a quality meeting; a meeting
that helped me in meeting the hidden
speaker within me. It's really has not
been a long time since I have been a
Toastmaster but still I can feel the
difference being created in my life. I
am proud to be a Toastmaster for life.

my resurrection
Few months ago, whenever I look myself
in the mirror I could see a fractured
soul, bleeding scars,a prisoner of past. I
have been through a lot recently, i have
made some mistakes which I couldn't
fix, I lost my friends because of my
attitude during impatient times.I'm very
much obsessed with changing my past
which is impossible and at the end I was
left alone because no one could handle
me. I went to a deep depression.All the
math formulas and science equations
weren't ready to help me.I felt like living
in a dystopian world. I joined Infosys like
a dead body without any feelings.That's
the time I met TM Nishant at the
induction about TOASTMASTERS. Being
hypnotized by his presentation, I
attended  toastmasters meeting  where I
saw some smiling faces which made me
realize that I was welcomed there. Few
weeks later I saw CC10 speeches of TM
Azhar and  TM Indrani and some table
topics speeches of TM Nishant and TM
Umesh. After listening to those speeches
I got inspired.More than that I realized
that broken hearts can be stitched
together. Those speeches directed me in
the path of resurrection. I joined
Toastmasters only for the sake of
survival.

But the farewell speech of DTM Anirban
and speech of TM Nishant at the
induction for new toastmasters sowed
an idea in my mind that
"transformation is possible" which later
on grew contagiously. I started to fight
with my fear of public speaking and I
could feel a new beginning of my life .
The change kicked in when I had a
conversation with my mentor TM
Nishant .That conversation healed my
wounds in the heart,gave me some
reason to smile and more than that it
guided me to find the purpose in my
life. I started to accept the happenings
and to redeem myself. Many people
consider toastmasters as a place where
people speak more but to me it is a
place more than that of speaking.This
place is packed with more listeners
,more leaders. More than that this is a
place where people could touch a lost
soul and could stitch a broken heart
.This club made me to feel that I'm not
alone. Now when I look myself in the
mirror I can see a ray of hope,I could
see a leader inside me. This club is the
only reason for my change from
prisoner of the past to the architect of
the future. I'm very much privileged to
be a part of this club.

one fine evening

Toastmasters is a place which
believes in the principle of "Together
we stand! Together we grow". I
 remember the exact date and time
when I first attended the toastmaster
meeting,
it was  on 29th August at 6:17pm in
the evening. At the beginning it
seemed like any other meeting,
happening somewhere in the world
but as the time passed I realised that
I was wrong. It is a meeting that was
happening because there are people
who have got a remarkable
characteristics, outstanding abilities
to help young employee like me, like
you to learn and grow. They have the
ability to bring out the best of you.
They give opportunities to the
audience to come on stage and to
share their happiness, life journey
and views because they believe that
every one of us 'Has a story to tell '
and that should be heard.
When I said that they believe in the
philosophy of "Together we stand!
Together we grow" then I mean it.
They encourage us to take more parts
in the event and are always
enthusiastic to enhance our skills, so
that we all can grow together. Also
for me attending toastmasters' formal
meeting as well as informal meeting ,
it seems like a religious obligation
which I don't want to miss.

This is the place where these great

personalities gather to share their
ideas, to demonstrate the importance
of effective communication, the
power and the ability to lead, to
inspire and to persuade people and
for all these they say, "speak!" and
"speak" more.
