WHAT TO DO WITH MONEY?

Money is essential in the daily living of a man; everything seems

easier to do when there is money. Often people have a lot of line up

plans for their lives hoping that as soon as they get money the plans

will take effect, but is quite unfortunate that when the money

surface people tends to spend it without being able to account or pin

point to any tangible achievement.

The question is why is it that some spend the money wisely and

others don’t? There is a thousand and one answers to this but few

shall be examine for the purpose of this article.

1. Background: your background has a lot to do with the way you

spend. An individual from a rich home and a poor home has

60/40% tendency of knowing how to manage money. Rich

parents often teach their children how to make/invest money

provided is not from a questionable source because money

from dubious source will be spent anyhow, but it takes a man

who has a financial intelligence to do well, if he comes from a

poor background. Someone recently told me that a guy got a

dash of 2.5 million naira from his office and he spent the

money on paying off a girl he had impregnated but believed

she’s not of his standard. This is a man of 32 years of age who

spent all his life in the village and managed to become a

graduate. The life of a man from ghetto will remain the same
until the Ghetto spirit is out of him. Here the background and

orientation has a lot to do in a man’s spending habit.

2. Discipline and contentment: those two were the cure for

covetousness. We all have the tendency of buying unnecessary

things to satisfy our wants and not our needs. Discipline can

help you to be what God want you to be in your finances. It will

better your lot when you have the ability to say no to what you

don’t need. The bible says Godliness with contentment is great

gain. This shows that is not enough to be godly but is as well

important to be contented. You might not know; but if you are

the type that is always in love with another people’s properties

or things and will do everything to get, it is a problem. If you

are covetous and you will not be that grateful to God for

whatever He has done for you, then you’ll keep decreasing.

3. Competition and lack of focus: when you don’t know what you

want; then you will want to be another person and you’ll live all

your life copying others. One thing I have discovered over time

about being focused is that you’ll know what you want and so

you can’t just be pushed or be carried away easily by flimsy

things. Invariably, you will not be moved by the little change

that is coming to you at the moment and focus will make you do

the right thing with the money you’re getting.

4. Unexpected promotion or lifting: when people suddenly wake up

and found out there are millions in their account; they might

begin to misbehave like the guy who paid off a lady that he put

in a family way. I was with a couple last weekend and the wife

said something that I have understanding of but it sounds so

new to me, ‘my husband was not rich when I met him but I

know I have a future’ she said. What will make you not to know

how to manage money is when you do not know who you are and

so when there is a sudden lifting or promotion you will think

you’re there, meanwhile there is a serious future for you. Let

us allow God to trust us with the little He’s bringing our way to

test us now so that we can experience the next chapter of

lifting.

What to do with money is a personal thing, but we should all

remember that money can grow wings and fly away; that is why it has

to be tied down and tying it down means investing wisely through

divine guidance. Also the place of prioritizing goals and benefitting

humanity is not excluded while thinking of what to do with money.
