Wildcat

and Cub Dancer Constitution

Purpose:
The purpose of Wildcat and Cub Dancers is to provide students with the opportunity
to develop and promote school spirit as a group, throughout the entire school year.
The focus of the program is for students to gain an appreciation of fine arts through
dance activities, while recognizing the inherent benefits of group participation and
individual development.

Selection:
• Girls and boys will be chosen according to those who rank highest in
evaluation of performance at tryouts. A panel of experienced adults who are
brought in from outside the school system will judge tryouts. Judges are
experienced dance/drill team officials, who have been a part of a collegiate
dance/drill team, have had numerous years training in dance/drill, or are
dance/drill instructors in a studio or school setting. Students will be
evaluated and assigned to Varsity, JV, or no team.

Expenses:
• If it is difficult to pay for the necessary expenses, a payment plan may be
established through the director. However, the member will only receive the
goods once he or she has paid for in full. The director will work with any
matter as fair as possible in order to insure the member has all opportunities.

Summer camp:
• All 3 days of summer camp/practice are mandatory
• If the dancer fails to attend a day of summer camp/practice she may not be
proficient enough to pass the assessment before the performance. (see pg. 2)

During class and after school practices:
• If your son or daughter cannot dance, please provide a note as to why he or
she needs to sit out. He or she must be taking notes during the rehearsal. No
phones.
• All dancers must attend every practice, (excluding optional technique
classes) unless they are too ill to be at school, or have a previously planned
and approved event.
• Students present at school are expected to attend practice, even though they
may be excused from participating if ill.
• If they are late to a practice, a demerit will be issued, and they will serve it at
the beginning of practice.
• No phones during class or at practice.

Attire during class: The dancer must be wearing:
• Top for that day
• Sports bra – no regular bras or tank tops underneath
• Leggings or jazz pants (black only)
• Tights with jazz pants
• Socks
• Jazz shoes (unless we are doing kick or hip hop)
• Hair out of face
• Friday is free dress:
o Must wear tights if they are wearing shorts
o Jazz shoes still required
o Hair up still required
o No jeans or “jeggings”

Appearance:
• No gum chewing, eating, drinking, wearing of any kind of jewelry, wearing of
hair ribbons, barrettes, or combs will be allowed while performing unless
they are a part of the uniform/performance outfit.
• A complete uniform check will be made by the director and/or officers prior
to game time or performance. Corrections in make-up will be made. Correct
hairstyle is part of the uniform and subject to correction.
• Pride in appearance and the wearing of the proper and complete uniform is
mandatory. The wearing of a support bra is mandatory.
• The uniform and poms will be kept clean and in good repair at all times and
ready for a performance.
• When wearing any Wildcat or Cub Dancer attire, including t-shirts, a member
will look presentable and will not partake in any form of PDA.

Performances:
• Performances are a major grade.
• All dancers must attend every performance, unless they are too ill to be at
school, or have a previously planned and approved event.
• Team members are required to audition for each performance throughout
the year, in order to maintain the level of excellence they have grown
accustom to.
• The dancers who did not pass the proficiency assessment in order to perform
must still be in attendance.
• Failure to attend will result in a 0 as a major grade. They may make up your
absence by completing a writing assignment.

Proficiency Assessments:
• The middle school dance teams are elite performance groups. Team
auditions are only the first of many auditions a team member must complete
during the year. Team members are required to audition for each
performance throughout the year, in order to maintain the level of excellence
they have grown accustomed to.
• Dancers will be required to audition before EVERY performance as a member
of the MS dance team. Audition dates for performances will be announced
ahead of time. If the dancer does not perform satisfactorily at the audition,
the director may eliminate him/her from the performance(s).
• Parents signed an agreement to this on the last page of the tryout packet.

Grades:
• After the end of a six weeks, the director checks grades. After a week grace
period, the dancer is then ineligible for 3 weeks and cannot perform. They must
be passing their progress report in all classes to regain eligibility.

Suspension or DAEP:
• If a dancer is suspended from school, they will be on probation and ineligible to
perform for 4 weeks. If any other disciplinary actions need to be taken on this
student during that 4-week period, they may be removed from the team.
• If a dancer is sent to DAEP, they will be removed from the team.

Social Media:
• Dancers are expected to be good examples to other students and represent our
program well. If a student posts crude, vulgar, bullying, etc. posts on social
media, the director may remove them from the team.

Fundraising:
• All dancers and parents must commit to helping during fundraisers.
• Fundraisers may change from year-to year.

Squad Leaders:
• If they are late to a practice, a demerit will be issued, and they will serve it at
the beginning of practice.
• There is absolutely no talking during practice until a break is issued.
• No phones at practice
• All food and drink (other than water/Gatorade) will be put away once
practice starts.
• All practices are mandatory. Absences must be approved by the
director. If attendance is a problem for the dancer, she may be pulled
from the contest routine.

Demerits:

• Being late to a practice or performance
• Not following directions
• Being disrespectful to others
• Leaving an item out in the locker room or gym
• Other communicated expectations
- To serve a demerit, the member must run 5 laps around the gym

*New: If the student receives a demerit on more than one day, consecutively, they
will be required to run 5 more laps each day. For example, if they forget a shirt
Monday, they will run 5 laps. If they forget it again on Tuesday, they will run 10. If
they forget it again on Wednesday, they will run 15 and so on.
