• Practice: 1. Lea las oraciones y complételas con un adverbio de lugar.

Los puntos se usan al final de una oración o un enunciado con sentido completo:

Este se usa cuando terminamos con una abreviación “etc.” Al final de la oración.

Puntos suspensivos – Ellipsis – (…)
•Los puntos suspensivos se utilizan para omitir una palabra, frase, línea o párrafo
citado.

•Los puntos suspensivos se utilizan para dejar una idea que continua.
“A modern city must be governed by a council … the council itself have the power to
take decisions...”
La coma – Comma – (,)
Las comas se utilizan para separar palabras o grupos de palabras en serie.
We bought a house, now we need to buy some furniture as a sofa, a TV, a bed, and a table with
some chairs.
En inglés, las comas se utilizan para remplazar la conjunción “Y” entre dos adjetivos o adverbios.

Las comas se utilizan en inglés para separar el mes del año en las fechas.

Introducir una oración subordinada, es decir, que se incluye dentro de la anterior o la explica
mejor.

Para separar palabras o frases que nos interrumpen la oración.

Separar dos oraciones diferentes, por lo general se conectan después de coma con
conjunciones (and, but, for, nor, yet, or, so). Cada oración debe llevar sujeto y verbo.

Introducir con palabras como: well, yes, so, however, nowadays, entre
otras.

Dos puntos – Colon – (:)
En este caso, si la oración que explica es larga, la primera letra irá en mayúscula.
Introducir una cita.

“Punto y coma”– Semicolons – (;)
Se utiliza para:
Para separar dos oraciones afines, pero sin nexo que las una.
•Keep the door open; my kids are going to arrive at any moment.
• Some people eat junk food; others prefers eating healthy.
Antes de introducir palabras como: Namely, However, therefore, that is, for example (e.g), entre
otras ya que estas palabras contrastan con la idea anterior y es necesario separarlas.
•Every productive section is going on a strike; however, the president insists there is no
problem in the country.
Este signo se usa generalmente para expresar sorpresa, entusiasmo etc. Se usa al
final.

Comillas –“Quotation marks” – (“”)
•No se hace referencia al verbo ir, de desplazarse, sino a la firme intención de hacer algo.
Ejemplo:
Yo voy a comprar un carro nuevo.
(hay una intención grande de comprar un carro y además es casi seguro que ocurra muy
pronto)
