PRECINCT 01
EXERCISE 1

THE PRECINCT IS LOCATED NEAR THE SHAHIBAUG AREA. IT LIES BETWEEN


RIVERFRONT AND SHAHIBAUG POLICE LINES; AND STRETCHES FROM RAILWAY BRIDGE TO
DAFNALA CROSSROADS.
THE PRECINCT IS PREDOMINANTLY RESIDENTIAL, WITH SEVERAL LAYERS TO IT.
THERE ARE QUARTERS FOR SENIOR GOVT OFFICIALS, GOVT EMPLOYEE HOUSING,
BUNGALOWS FOR RAILWAY STAFF, A HUGE HOUSING COMPLEX FOR POLICE AND
SEVERAL PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES – BOTH OLD AND NEW. OF WHICH NEW ONES
ARE COMING UP NEAR THE RIVERFRONT.
THERE ARE SEVERAL NOTABLE BUILDINGS IN THE PRECINCT THE MOST HISTORICAL
IS THE SARDAR PATEL NATIONAL MEMORIAL, ALONGWITH AREA AUDIT OFFICE,
ANTICORRUPTION BUREU, GUJARAT VIDYAPEETH ETC
THERE ARE MIXED USE BUILDINGS ALSO LINED UP ALONG THE AIRPORT ROAD, THE
AIRPORT ROAD FORMS THE BACKBONE OF THE PRECINCT AND DUE TO ITS CONNECTIVITY
WITH WESTERN PART OF THE CITY AS WELL AS THE AIRPORT IT IS BUSY THROUGHOUT
THE DAY AND ATTRACTS A LOT OF TRAFFIC TO THE PRECINCT, THUS HELPING THE
COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES ALONG THIS STRETCH. THE PRECINCT IS ALSO SERVED BY
RIVERFRONT AND DAFNALA ROAD WHICH CONSTITUTE THE REMAINDER OF MAJOR
ROADS IN THE PRECINCT. THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN AIRPORT ROAD AND THE
DAFNALA ROAD IS THE BUSIEST JUNCTION IN THE PRECINCT.
INTRODUCTION OF THE RIVERFRONT PROJECT HAS HELPED OPEN UP NEW
PROPERTIES AND EASED THE TRAFFIC LOAD ON THE AIRPORT ROAD.
THE PRECINCT IS LARGELY DIVIDED INTO TWO BY THE AIPORT ROAD. PROPERTIES
ALONG THE ROAD AND ON ITS UPPER AND WESTERN SIDE ARE COMPARITIVELY WELL OFF
THEN ONES TO ITS SOUTHERN SIDE. THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE PRECINCT IS LARGELY
OCCUPIED BY POLICE HOUSING ALONG WITH RELATIVELY OLDER PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL
SOCITIES.
THE PRECINCT ALSO CONSTITUTES OF A LARGE SLUM AREA IN THE SOUTH EAST
REGION OF THE SITE.
