2010, that 5.2% of children in 17 provinces in Indonesia experienced menarche under the
age of 12 years. Research conducted in SMP N 30 Semarang in 2012 showed the prevalence
of early menarche of 23.6%. Early menarche is a risk factor for malignant disease.
Preliminary survey results show that from 41 students 58.64% of them experienced early
menarche and the rest normal menarche.
To determine the factors related to menarche in girls in SMP Swasta Harapan 1 and 2
Medan, conducted a study using cross-sectional research design. The samples were taken by
purposive sampling as many as 131 students. Data were analyzed by descriptive univariate
and bivariate using the chi square test with 95% CI.
The result showed the proportion of early menarche in SMP Swasta Harapan 1 and 2 Medan
in 2014 as much as 60.3% and 39.7% incidence of normal menarche. Furthermore, the age
of menarche were largely normal mothers 67.9%, normal nutritional status 53.4% , good
habit diet 70.2%, bad habit of watching tv 75.6%, poor exercise habits 81.7%.
The results of the bivariate analysis there are four variables that have a significant
relationship with the occurrence of menarche is maternal age of menarche (p = 0.001),
nutritional status (p = 0.001), diet (p = 0.001), the habit of watching tv (p=0.028) whereas
exercise habits are not have a significant relationship (p=0,243).
It is expected that the student in order to implement a balanced nutritional diet and regular
exercise so won’t increase the risk factor for the occurrence of malignant disease.
