This sheet covers the Calculation of isolated bus duct short circuit current ratings,

1. Calculation of Isolated Phase Bus duct short circuit current Ratings

1.1 Calculation
1) Impedance Map of Generator Main Circuit
The impedance map is shown in Fig. 1.
Where (100MVA base)

Reference document : “SPC-GEH-XITJ-0015 rev0 ; Spec. for 802MVA Generator”,

“SPC-GEH-XITJ-0014 rev1 ; Spec. Generator Transformer”,
“SPC-GEH-XITJ-0005 rev0 ; Spec. for Unit Transformer”,
“CAL-GEH-XITJ-0002 rev2 ; Cal.of short circuit current for 10kV SWGR”

a. System impedance (Xe) –

Xe = j1.02 (According to PLN later of ‘365/151/P3B/2004” on Oct.-19-’04)
b. Generator transformer impedance (Xmt) –
Xmt = 0.02 + j1.91
c. Unit transformer impedance (Xht1/2) –
Xht = 0.759 + j21.4
d. Generator impedance (Xg) –
Xg = j3.65
e. Motor contribution (Xm1/2) –
Xm = 9.7 + j64.5

2) Calculation of Short-Circuit Current

We take i1, i2, i3 - - - - - - - - as follows :-
i1 : Current supplied from the generator at the three phase short circuit
i2 : Current supplied from the generator transformer at the three phase short circuit
i3 : Current supplied from the unit transformer at the three phase short circuit
then, referring the impedance map Fig. 1 ;

100 × 10
= = 2.53 × 10
√3 × 22.8 × 10
100
= × = 38.3

100
= × = 25.7

100
= × = 37.1

From the above, we can get the following short circuit currents which run through the
buses when the three short circuit failure occurs at point A,B,C ------------.

Failed Short circuit current Short circuit current

point formulas symmetrical (r.m.s.) kA for 1 sec
A I2 + i3 63.1
B I1 + i2 64.3
C I2 + i3 62.8
