This method statement covers work processes to be adopted for the site installation of conduits &
associated supports suitable for the site condition.

4.0 GENERAL&SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

 Risk Assessment shall be prepared including mitigation measures, and responsibility for
implementation. This shall be coordinated with site Safety In-charge and attach to this method
statement.
 Before commencing any work, all permits shall be checked and ensured that they are valid until
completion of activity.
 All works shall be referred to the IFC Drawings and specifications.
 All materials shall be approved, sampled, tested, & accepted (as applicable) by client prior to
incorporation to the work.
 All staff and workmen shall wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).
 Toolbox talks shall be conducted every day before commencement of work.
 All personnel shall be cautioned while working near live lines and other services.
 Prior to commencement of activities/works, the entire area shall be barricaded.
 Adequate sign boards shall be kept to forewarn all.
 Accumulated debris shall be cleared from the work site on daily basis.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

Below mentioned personnel with the responsibilities entrusted to them shall be responsible for
carrying out below mentioned works. In addition to their roles and responsibilities disseminated in
the Project Quality & EHS Plans and the following specific activity functions shall be carried out:

5.1 Project Manager

 Provide his team with appropriate resources to ensure that works are done in accordance with
the project Quality and EHS requirements and shall be responsible for the approval of method
statement and overall project management.

5.2 Construction Manager

 Directly reporting to the Project Manager, assisted by construction team as indicated in the
project organization chart.
 Ensure that method statement is prepared, established & control measures taken before starting
the work and guiding the team for implementation.
 Ensure that latest approved drawings are available at site prior to start of work.
 Follow-up & coordinate with design engineering team for preparation and approval of drawings.
 Conduct training and awareness program for all personnel deployed for the activity.

5.3 Site Engineer

 He is directly reporting to the Construction Manager.


 Prepare method statement, take approval, and implement.
 Execute works according latest method statement, IFC drawings, and contract specifications.
 Orient/train the team to implement the method statements effectively.
 Maintain related records.
 Coordinate with Surveyor for survey works
 Coordinate with Quality In-charge for scheduling of inspections & approval as per ITP.

 Make all necessary arrangements for inspection of work as per ITP.

5.4 Quality In-charge

 Quality In-charge shall review the method statements and ensure all requirements are included.
 Check & ensure availability of ITP / Checklists for the activity.
 Schedule inspection of works in coordination with Site Engineer.
 Prepare and maintain inspection logs, records, and obtain approval from client.
 Inspect the measuring equipment for calibration.
 Review Quality Control records and ensure correctness.

5.5 Safety In-charge

 Disseminate EHS requirements specific to the activities involved and facilitate implementation.
 Highlight the work specific Hazard / Aspect Identification & Risk / Impact Assessment.
 Ensure that work is carried out in safe manner in coordination with Site Engineer, sub-
contractors, etc.

6.0 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS

7.0 PROCEDURES:
 Conduit route is to be marked as per construction drawings

 Conduit supports are to be fabricated from the approved materials according to


specification, if they are not supplied prefabricated.

 Conduit Fittings to be wrench tight.

 Conduits to be cleaned internally before installation.

 Conduit Ends are provided with an insulated bushing to protect the wire from Abrasion,
unless the box fittings or enclosure design provides equivalent protection.

 Bend of Rigid metal conduit shall be so made that the conduit will not be damaged and
that the internal diameter of the conduit will not be effectively reduced.

 Sealing compound will be provided in the seal fitting, wherever required.

 Liquid tight flexible conduit shall be installed at instrument side or as per required.

 Conduit should be checked to meet the specification & layout drawings.

 Conduit supports are to be installed by anchor bolts or welded on to an existing support /


imbedded plate as the case may be. During installation, the supports should be checked
for their alignment, verticality and level as per layout drawings.

 Damaged paint and surface treatment work of the conduits & supports etc. is to be
restored and checked to conform to specification.

 Conduit work is to be properly identified as per layout drawings and as per specification.
 All non-current carrying metallic parts are grounded as per National Electric Code (NEC)
Article 250

PRECAUTIONS
A. Existing Installations

 No work in the immediate vicinity of, existing electrical installations shall be allowed
without a valid permit to work.

 Work shall only be allowed under full time supervision by a competent supervisor & safety
officer.

Scaffolding

 Scaffolding shall not be disturbed or altered by any unauthorized persons where


alterations are required authorized scaffolders would be contacted who shall carry out the
work under competent supervision.

 Where materials are to be positioned on scaffolding it shall be ensured that the


scaffolding is not overloaded.

 Incomplete/unsafe scaffolding shall not be used.

 Scaffolding shall be inspected regularly for suitability.

 If there is any doubt about the security of any anchorage, suspension points or ties for a
scaffold, e.g., strength of existing buildings/structures, or these under construction, the
Client’s representative shall be consulted before proceeding with erection.

 All scaffolds shall be provided with suitable access and where ladders are used for this
purpose. They shall be of an adequate length and properly secured by lashing or fixing to
prevent displacement

8.0 INSPECTION

 Quality In-charge shall prepare ITP identifying the inspection check points and submitted to
customer representative for review and acceptance prior to start of work.
 Inspection with customer representative shall be carried out for all “Witness Points” and “Hold
Points” inspections identified in ITP.
 An inspection request shall be submitted to client one day prior to scheduled date of inspection.
